Question:
i have a 2000 dodge grand caravan and i am trying to hook this Item # HM48035 to the van but am having trouble figuring out what to do about the brake lights since they are not on the same circuit as the turn signals. the original harness has five wires and i am not even sure which wire is ground. i have found the tail lights, the brake and the turn signal. that leaves two wires. i thought about just splicing the brake and turn signal right behind the original wiring harness and then connecting them both the brake and turn signal to the wire that goes to the turn signal on Item # HM48035. was worried that that may cause an issue. would like to know for sure what to do in this situation. Thank you

Your 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan uses a separate wiring system, meaning that the brake and turn signals are sent along separate wires. Because of this, a converter is required and you will not be able to use the Hopkins Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # HM48035 referenced in your question.
To install a 4-way connector on your Grand Caravan, I recommend using the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118334. This includes the needed converter and the T-One connector will plug directly into existing wiring behind the driver and passenger side tail lights.
I have attached the written installation details that you can look through.
