    • Provides backup function to release surge brakes
    • Fits most 4-way connectors
  • Easy-pull, ergonomic grip on connector makes disconnecting a snap
  • Heavy-duty connector housing has built-in mounting holes
  • Durable, molded dust cover provides superior protection for terminals
    • Tin-plated terminals resist corrosion
  • Nylon sleeve and heat-shrink tubing protect wires
  • Terminal grease packet included

Specs:

  • Connector: 5-way flat
  • Wire length: 48"
  • Wire gauge: 16
  • 3-Year warranty

The 5-way flat connector is found on most newer boat trailers that have hydraulic brakes. The fifth wire in this model ties into the reverse lights on your vehicle so that a signal can be sent to your hydraulic brake actuator to disengage whenever the tow vehicle is put into reverse. To use this function, your actuator must have an electric reverse lockout with solenoid.

The 5-way design will also work with small utility trailers that have electric brakes. For this type of application, the fifth wire will need to be wired to correspond with your in-cab, electric brake controller.

H.D. auto trailer connector well worth the extra cost.

by:

Connector and wire harness well made - connector designed such that it can be mounted and harness has added protection for wires.

Would like to have marine grade wire since I do mostly saltwater fishing. I mounted the connector on a piece of 1.5" square galvanized tubing painted black.

by:

Used this on my 2018 Equinox for my flat tow tail lights.

by:

I fitted the Hopkins 5-way flat connector harness with a 5-way round plug which couples to my Goldwing trike (tow vehicle). The popup trailer lights operate as designed.

by:

ONE YEAR AFTER THIS WIRING HARNESS IS STILL WORKING GREAT . THE PART IS JUST WHAT I NEEDED AND THE SERVICE AT ETRAILER IS AWSOME..... I LIVE IN WISCONSIN WHERE THE WINTERS ARE VERY COLD AND THE ROADS ARE VERY SALTY AND IT HAS HELD UP GREAT.... AWSOME PRODUCT

by:

Worked great on my 2022 Civic Sport Hatchback. Unlike the previous generation (2021 and older) you DO NOT have to trim the internal metal bumper for clearance of the outer plastic bumper. Trimming the lower diffuser was pretty easy and only required a 3-1/4 in cut in depth and about 2-1/4 in width (If you want the gaps super tight). Remember to tape off the panels before you get started to prevent chips and paint scratches and you'll be set.

by:

Delivery was faster than I expected. I bought a converter with the appropriate adapters to go from a 4 wire vehicle to a trailer with turn signals separate from the brakes. I haven't done my final assembly yet, but I did take a few minutes to twist the wires together to make sure everything was going to work like it was supposed to. Instructions were clear, wires & converter were clearly labeled & preliminary hook up took less than 10 minutes.

by:

This connector is built to last. A big step up from most flat 4 or 5 wire in quality.
With it's secure fitting dust/dirt cover I have no worries that the terminals
will stay clean and always make a good connection . The 3 year warranty is a
plus also.

by:

Not installed yet due to weather & travel. Prefer to 5 pin adapter kit. Like extra cable / wire length to connect to Jeep wire harness so all connections are in a protected space. Heavy duty and like dust cap.

by:

etrailer is a great place. They have both quality equipment and parts, as well as excellent prices. If you need some advice, they can supply that as well. It is rare in the days of internet buying that you can find all three qualities from one store.

by:

I needed to change from a 4 prong trailer connection to a 5 prong. The product was easy to wire and works great. A good product and I would recommend it to anyone.

by:

Product exactly as described. Etrailer.com delivered to my door within 3 days! As always excellent communication and transaction.
Will continue to use them for all my trailering needs.

by:

Excellent product with simplicity made this a breeze to connect. works like a charm!!

by:

Great Product. Each terminal is identified in the plastic plug end - making wiring and troubleshooting easier.

Comes with a decorative and protective loom and covering end cap.

by:

A quality built wiring harness. Heavy duty and well constructed.

by:

Attached easily. Nice that NO extra bracket is needed to attach to the bumper.

by:

I'm one of those people who do a lot of research before making a purchase. I am very happy with the quality of the Hopkins trailer connector and would highly recommend it.. Good quality products and excellent service from etrailer.com

  • Creating a 6-Way Round to 5-Way Flat Trailer Wiring Adapter
We do not carry a 6-way to 5-way adapter, so I recommend making one using the Hopkins Trailer Connector Adapter - 6-Pole Round to 6-Pole Square # HM47415 and removing the 6-pole square to replace with the Hopkins Endurance 5-Way Flat Trailer Connector - Vehicle End - Ergonomic Design # HM47900. You won't use the 12V feature so I recommend removing that wire from the 6-way so it doesn't draw any power. I've attached a wiring article to help with the connections.

  • Solution for Towing Honda Goldwing with 4-Way with Trailer with 5-Way
Hey Al, so the reason the trailer has a 5-way is because motorcycles have the stop lights and the turn signals on different circuits normally. Your Goldwing sounds like it has a taillight converter installed on it already so that it can be used with the standard type of trailer taillight setup where the circuits are combined. While there isn't an adapter available I can tell you how to make one. You will need a wiring converter like the part # RM-732, a 4-way to plug into your Ranger...

  • Wiring Replacement 5-Pole Trailer Connector on 2012 Ranger Trailer
You can use a standard 5-pole trailer connector, you'll just need to wire it a certain way. The # HM47900 you referenced is the vehicle side connector, you need the trailer side connector like part # HM47910, which would wire as shown in the provided photo. The red wire you mention is for the reverse lockout on the trailer coupler, and is tied in with the reverse lamp circuit of the vehicle. Both brown wires would connect to the brown wire of the trailer connector. The yellow and green...

  • Parts Needed to Add Hydraulic Disc Brakes to Pontoon Boat Trailer
Hi Adam; the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout # DX89FR you were looking at is a great option to pair with the # KOD87FR. This fits a 3" wide trailer tongue so you will need to make sure that is what you have. This will also require adding a 5-way to the trailer and your vehicle to use the electric lockout. On the vehicle side you can use the Curt Trailer Connector Adapter - 4-Way Flat to 5-Way Flat # C57187. If you already have a 7-way on your vehicle then you could...

  • Where Does Fifth Pin of Trailer 5-Way Run to Activate Reverse Lock Out Solenoid
Sounds like you are trying to activate a reverse lock out solenoid on a surge brake trailer so that it can back up freely. The fifth pin that is the furthest from the jacketed ground pin is the fifth circuit to use. This circuit would need to tap into the reverse light circuit of your tow vehicle. I attached an install video for the 5-way adapter part # 47515 that shows this process on a 2014 GMC Acadia.

  • How to Make 6-Way to 5-Way Flat Trailer Connector Adapter
A 6-way round to a 5 flat can be made but since the demand for this type of adapter is very low none of our manufacturers offer one. What you would need is 5-way vehicle side with lead like # HM47900 and then wire it to a 6-way plug part # PK11604 and you'd have the adapter you'd need.

Since we do not carry Frontier Gear headache racks, I do not have wiring diagrams or other installation instructions pertaining to this product. However, I can give some insight and do my best to point you in the right direction. Since you have a 7 way on the back, you can just plug in Hopkins 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector - 11' Long # HM20048 which will provide the necessary lighting circuits for the headache rack. I can certainly help you with that. Since the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness, part # C55384 is a 4-way connector the four functions will be Yellow for the left turn and brake, Green is for right turn and brake, Brown is for running lights, and the White is the ground wire that gets attached to a clean metal surface. • Parts Needed to Backup Without Putting on the Surge Brakes When Parking or Launching a Boat Trailer
Yes, there is a way to back up your boat trailer and keep the surge brake actuator, # T43397007K, from applying pressure to the trailer brakes. You will need an electric lockout solenoid, # T4748800, which will close when you shift the vehicle into reverse, allowing the trailer to be backed. Along with the solenoid, you will need a solenoid cover, # T4835800183, if your actuator is the model 60 actuator that you referenced. The cover will keep the solenoid from getting stepped on and damaged...

  • How to Install Trailer Wiring on a 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor Pulling a Boat Trailer with a 5-Way
Yes, the fifth wire on your boat trailer is most likely a reverse lock-out solenoid for the surge brakes so that you can reverse your trailer without the brakes activating. I would recommend you install this Curt T-Connector # C56039 on your 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor (instructions attached) and then cut the 4-way off of the harness and then wire up a Hopkins Endurance 5-Way Flat Trailer Connector # HM47900 by function to the wires that are now exposed from the # C56039 to the # HM47900....

We do have that adapter...it is the Trailer Connector Adapter w/ Lamp-Out Sensor Bypass - 7-Way RV to 7-Way RV - Vehicle End # 20142. This works great for trailers with LED lights. I assume the 7 flat is the blade style and not the European 7 flat which we don't have the adapter for. • Wiring Harness for a Honda Valkyrie to Tow an Escapade Motorcycle Trailer

Yes, running a separate wire for the reverse light function will work but you will need to use connectors on your tow vehicle and trailer that has 5 pin locations instead of 4. • Tail Light Wiring Converter to Join European Motorcycle and U.S. Trailer Wiring Formats
As you noted, trailers made for the U.S. use a combined wiring scheme for their lighting. Stop and turn signals for each side of the trailer are combined into one circuit and one wire. European wiring is different; it has all separate circuits. This is why there are no simple adapters that can join the two wiring standards and why converters are needed.
