Features to know about

Effortlessly Rewire Your Trailer: Wishbone Design Simplifies Installation

Rewiring a trailer can be a daunting task, but the unique wishbone design of this 40 Ft 5-Way Trailer Wiring Harness makes it straightforward. With separate wires for each tail light running down the length of the trailer, there's no need for a jumper wire. This smart setup allows you to easily split the tail light circuits, saving you time and hassle.

Stay Safe When Reversing: Auxiliary Wire for Surge Brake Lockout

Ever had trouble with your trailer brakes engaging when backing up? The harness' auxiliary wire is a game-changer. Connecting to your trailer's backup light circuit, it efficiently disengages hydraulic or surge brakes, making reversing smooth and problem-free. If your actuator has an electric lockout feature, this harness is exactly what you need.

Perfect for Longer Trailers: Generous 40' Length

Struggling to find a harness long enough for your trailer? This one spans an expansive 40 feet, catering to larger trailers or intricate setups. It's ideal for marine trailers and those tougher, more challenging trailers where a little extra length makes all the difference.

Color-Coded for Easy Setup: Intuitive Wiring

Forget the uncertainty when wiring your trailer for lights. This wiring harness is color-coded, making installation straightforward and user-friendly. With intuitive color guides like white for ground, brown for tail lights, and more, you can set up your trailer lights with confidence and ease.

Reliable Performance Under Pressure: Built for the Long Haul

Looking for a wiring harness that can stand up to challenging conditions? This trailer wiring harness is durable, designed to reliably control your trailer light functions for the long haul. Whether towing a boat trailer or a utility trailer, its robust design is made to meet the demands of regular usage.

Very fast shipping.. Looks like its gonna be a breeze to install..

Quick shipping and easy use of web site for ordering will reuse again

Excellemt product and service as always. Etrailer is the best source for your products . They have outstanding service and pricing.

by:

Design wise it is excellent, the wishbone design is intelligent and makes rewiring a boat trailer simple and clean.

The Good rating? The wire gauge looks to be 18-20, wish it was heavier gauge, especially since it is a 40 ft long harness. And it is made in China or Taiwan, not a heavy duty or perfect construction.

If it lasts as long as my original, 14-years, I'll come back and bump up my rating, and I bet you can't find a better one.

As far as the transaction, it was excellent, had the 40 footer I needed, great price and super fast shipping.

I would have to give my representative Madison 5 stars as she was very pleasant and helpful. I overall gave this product as a 3 mainly because the ground wire is so short as my preference is to ground each light back to the vehicle rather than the trailer frame and I have backup lights so the backup (blue wire) should be considerably longer so as to reach the furthest backup light.

Madison is awesome for sure! I will make sure she receives your message :) I appreciate your honesty on this part as it pertained to how you prefer to install the ground. I'm sure there are others out there who share your opinion and this will be helpful to them, too :)

After years of use of the original wiring harness on my boat trailer, it was in need of replacement. This new Optronics harness was definitely the thing it needed. It fits perfectly, with minimal modifications, to make it work. All the corroded connectors were replaced and now the lights work again!

by:

The wiring harness arrived on time and in perfect condition. It's a very simple product but worked exactly as it should. Got all my trailer lights working now.

by:

If your trailer has more than a couple running lights along with your tail light, this harness will not work well at a 40ft length with this gauge wire.

by:

My boat trailer had a split wiring harness that had suffered over the years. I purchased this harness for the boat trailer and with attaching it to the old wire was able to pull it through the frame and connect all new lights in an afternoon.

Good product and always works

I guess I should of read discription better , wire harness delivered had 4 wires that were 30’ in length , but the blue and white wires were only 36” in length , I had to go out and but a roll of white and a roll of blue to complete replacement PU camper break circuits.

This harness comes with 40 foot of the brown, yellow, and green whites. It comes with 30 foot of the white ground wire and 5 foot of the blue auxiliary wire. The auxiliary wire connects to backup light circuit to disengage surge brakes when you are driving in reverse. The hydraulic actuator must have electric lockout feature built-in to disengage the trailer brakes

by:

This harness worked well for my 21 foot boat trailer. There was excess wire and it took care of some corrosion problems I had with my old wiring.
Etrailer always has great descriptions so you know what is being shipped.

by:

I got my 40ft wishbone trailer harness in about 5 days. Was held up a day because of the Christmas holiday. All in all I was quite satisfied with my purchase. I'm putting "Pole Lights" on my trailer to keep them out of the water. I didn't want to "splice any wires", so I ordered the 40ft length. I have not yet installed this, but plan to start today. Its been a very busy holiday season, and now time to get to work.

THE PRODUCT CAME QUICK AND ETRAIER AS THE ONLY PLACE TO HAVE THIS PRODUCT. 40 FT TRAILER HARNESS . WE WILL BE INSTALLING IT ON MY 2010 CONTINENTAL BOAT TRAILER . FILMING IT ON MY YOUTUBE CHANNEL . .SHALLOWHOOKERFISHING.COM . ILL BE HAPPY TO MENTION ETRAILERS.COM ON MY CHANNEL. .

by:

etrailer is a the only place I could find this item as I live in a rural area. The harness was perfect and did the job well. Service and shipping time was perfect.

by:

The harness seems fine but receiving this item from etrailer was terrible. I didn’t have enough in my cart for free shipping so I was charged, which is fine. What I am not fine with is etrailer using the pony express to get it to me. If I can find it on [online vendor] I will get it from there.

by:

Very satisfied with product. Only recommendation is charge an extra minimal amount for splices, terminals and etc.
In my DIY application, replacing the bumper plug connector. I'll retain the remaining wiring harness for near future replacement.

by:

Excellent wiring harness!! Hasn't given me any trouble in over a year.

by:

Exactly what I was looking for and fast delivery.

by:

Completely rewired my trailer and this kit had all that I needed.

by:

Great experience! Good product and fast delivery.

by:

My 5 pin, 40' wire harness arrived within just a couple days. Excellent price and Excellent service. Thank you etrailer.com.

by:

Great Quality. This harness has 20ga wire. wish the wire gauge was thicker. I used this for a boat trailer rewire and 16ga would beef the harness up perfectly.

  • Old Trailer Wiring 5-Way had 6 Wires But New 5-Way Has 5 Wires
The trailer connector that you had is what is called a wishbone harness. It has 2 running light wires so you do not have to run a jumper wire for running lights from one side of the trailer to the other. Harness # A40W5B is an example of a wishbone 5-Way. All you have to do is connect the 2 running light wires from the trailer wiring together and then to the brown wire on the new harness. Or, if you are replacing all the wiring, you would run a jumper wire from one side of the trailer...

  • Adding Electric Lockout and 5-Way to Trailer with Titan Model 60 Actuator
To add an electric lockout to your Titan Model 60 actuator only requires the part # T4748800 and then if you wanted to add a shroud to protect the lock out you'd also need the part # T4835800183. To activate the electric lock out you need a reverse light circuit carried to it. Typically a 5-way is needed for this to carry the extra circuit. For a 5-way you'd then want the part # A40W5B which you can replace your 4-way with. For a 7-way to a 5-way adapter then you'd want the part # A75TB...

  • What Length Wiring Harness Is Needed For a Boat Trailer Measuring 22-1/2' From Tail Light To Tongue?
With having 22'6" from your tail light location to the tongue on your trailer I recommend going with at least a 30' wiring harness. The additional length is needed so you will be able to route your wiring on the frame to the lights and to have enough to connect to the tow vehicle. We do have a 30', 4-Way Flat Harness # W002230 or a 40', 5-Way Harness # A40W5B depending if your boat trailer has a surge brake coupler with electric lockout. I recommend having 2' of wiring past the tongue so...

  • Replacement 5-Way Trailer Wiring for Boat Trailer
For new 5-way wiring what you'll need is the part # A40W5B. This will handle all of the wiring that runs from the connector back to the lighting assemblies as well as for a reverse lock out solenoid. Surge brakes don't always require wiring as they don't always have reverse lock out solenoids. It's very possible yours does not have one so wiring may not be needed. If you see a solenoid at the back of the actuator on the brake line you will want to run the blue wire of the 5-way to it. I...

  • Recommendation to Replace Trailer 5-Way That Has 9 Wires
It sounds like the current 5-Way connector on your trailer has a type of wishbone wiring design, which uses separate wires for the signal lights on both sides of the trailer. Most likely yours has a separate wire going down each side of the trailer for the running lights, brake lights, and reverse light functions. I highly recommend following the wiring from the connector on your trailer and testing them for function to verify this. We do not have any 5-Way connectors available with a...

Currently the only wiring harnesses we have with a 5-way flat connector are like the 25 Ft 5-Way Trailer Wiring Harness # A25W5B and 40 FT Harness # A40W5B. These harnesses use 6 wires coming from the connector. It has a short 5' blue wire to run to the surge brake electric lockout, a short 30" ground wire to attach to the trailer frame, 2 brown wires for the running lights on either side of the trailer, a green wire for the passenger brake/turn signal and a yellow wire for the drivers...

When a 4-Way or 5-Way pin wiring harness for a trailer has more wires than pins, like the Optronics # A40W5B, it just means that the manufacturer is trying to make it easier on the installer. In your case it sounds like your trailer has 2 ground wires and 2 running light wires that run down either side of the trailer. • What Does Some Trailer Wiring Have 2 Brown Tail Light Wires
Common 4-pole trailer wiring like # HM38138 uses one wire, the brown one, for the running lights on both sides of the trailer. Sometimes what is called a 'wishbone' harness is installed on the trailer and this simply uses two separate running light wires - brown with yellow for left and brown with green for right - to make it easier to connect to the trailer lights since that way no jumper wire will be needed to cross from one side to the other. While tinned wiring is the norm when it comes to interior wiring on boats, boat trailers see a minimal amount of water compared to the actual boats. They do use a tin coating on the pins that are the parts of a wiring harness like the Wesbar 5-Pole Flat Connector # A40W5B since those are most exposed to moisture, but since the actual wiring is rarely exposed to water I'm guessing that's why they don't go the extra mile when it comes to using that wiring within the harnesses. On the trailer's 5-way connector the yellow wire with brown stripe is most likely a running light circuit but you want to be sure. There is sometimes a yellow/brown wire which is ran down the left side of the trailer for tail lights and a green/brown wire which is ran down the right side of the trailer for tail lights. • What are the Functions of a 5-Way Flat Trailer Connector with 8 Wires
On a 5-Way trailer connector, usually found on boat trailers, the pin on the end furthest from the ground pin is used on an electric reverse lockout on the trailer coupler. This is so when you put the vehicle in reverse, it will single a solenoid on the coupler and not allow fluid to go back to the brakes so you can back up without the brakes engaging. If this is what is on your trailer then you would not want to switch to a 4-Way connector unless you also switched to free-backing brakes. It...
