Video Transcript for Hopkins Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - HM11141144 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number HM11141144. This is the Hopkins, Multi-tow 7-Way Blade and 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector. The product is going to fit certain years of a Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon with the factory tow harness. The 7-pole and 4-pole harness is going to let your plug your trailer wiring into your vehicle. You got the ports right here. Now on your vehicle it's actually going to be oriented like this.

There's going to be an oval-shape plug on your bumper near your license plate. You'll remove that and replace it with this. It's got the spring hinges back here so no hardware is required. It's just going to snap and place for a nice tight fit. But on top you'll have the area for your 4-Way Flat Connector and on the bottom you're going to have the area for the 7 Blade Connector. The pre-wire harness is going to connect to your truck's bare factory wiring.

Nice design. It's got the wire loom already on there so it's going to protect the wires. Then you're going to have your white wire for your ground connection. It's got the ring terminal pre-attached to it. It's going to come with all the necessary butt connectors. That way you can easily connect to the wires on the vehicle.

And it's going to come with the terminal grease packet. That way you can apply that to the terminals and that's going to prevent moisture being able to cause corrosion to the connection points. This is going to be made from an impact resistant ABS plastic construction. Here on the bottom of the lids we're going to have rubber gaskets. It's going to create a nice tight seal which is going to keep dirt and moisture out.

When it comes to the installation the vehicle harness is going to be located behind the rear bumper. You'll want to join the harness wires to the vehicles corresponding wires according to the chart that's located in the instructions. You want to be sure to locate the wires and pin location by function only. Don't rely 100 percent on color coding because that's not standard among all manufactures. So it's got the nice diagram there as well as the instructions. It's going to walk you through that process, making sure you get everything connected and hooked up as it should be. Then you'll need to make your ground connection. Then again you'll have to remove that oval plug on the vehicle and simply replace it with this part. These two pieces right here simply just lock in together. From the back of the vehicle this is going to be the only piece you're going to be able to see when it comes to the actual connector. No mounting hardware needed. Again, this is going to snap into the oval shaped hole and it's going to give you super easy access to your plugs. That's going to do it for today's look at part number HM11141144.

Connector worked well for my truck. I wish that the butt splices worked better but they seem to be the preferred method for attaching wires. All of the connections at the plug and at the attachment points for the trailer were well made. Glad to see stainless hinge construction 647446

This product was, as far as I can tell, an exacting replica of what is installed by the factory or dealer for a towing package on GMC truck. I installed it on my 2015 GMC Canyon following the wiring directions provided. No problems installing, easy to do with a crimper and 20 min. I have had one year without problems. Good stuff. 268726

Great kit. Only thing missing is the ground wire on the pigtail for my '16 GMC canyon was like a 10 gauge or something much larger than on this kit. 392114

Wired a 7/4 way to 2017 Colorado... quick AND easy!!! The colored wiring diagram was accurate..... The only problem I had was eventually figuring out the Pollak 12-741EV tester you sold me had to be plugged in with the test light indicators facing downwards. A hand held mirror placed under the plugged in 7 way tester did the trick, and BTW the 7/4 connector only installs one way: 7 pole round on top and 4 pole flat on the bottom. 855620
