Why is Battery Connection Required to Install Trailer Wiring Harness on 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan

Question:
Is there a reason I need to run the power from the battery and use that box? The reason I ask is I have already gone through 2 Curt T-connectors, as the box keeps frying out. Most recent one failing because it sends contestant power to the left signal. I would love to just power it from the tail lights and get rid of the problem prone box.

On your 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan a powered wiring harness is needed to take the amperage draw off of the vehicle's sensitive wiring. The powered harnesses that connect to the vehicle battery use the battery to power the trailer lights.
Curt powered harnesses do tend to put constant power on at least 1 circuit even with the vehicle off. this usually isn't an issue unless something is plugged into the 4-Way and drawing power.
Since the Curt harnesses are not working for you I recommend the Tow Ready harness # 118552. They do not have that same problem.
But before installing a new harness I recommend inspecting the trailer side connector and wiring just to make sure there isn't a short. Make sure the connector is clean and free of corrosion, the main trailer connector ground and the light grounds are all attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces. And make sure there are no pinched or broken wires on the trailer.
