2" Hitch for 2015 Nissan Leaf

Published 08/21/2020

Question:

I’m looking for a 2inch trailer hitch for my 2015 leaf. The only one I found was the eco hitch that cost of twice what the Curt is selling for. Does curt sell a 2inch hitch that’s in the $150 range?

I checked the fit guide for your 2015 Nissan Leaf and found only the two hitches that you are referring to. Generally speaking, the cost of hitches are higher as you request a larger size and higher load capacity due to the increased labor and materials cost to produce them.

The Curt # C11396 Class-I hitch that fits your Leaf has a 1.25" receiver, 150 pound cargo capacity, and 1500 pound towing capacity, whereas the EcoHitch # 306-X7221 has a 2" receiver with 300 pounds of cargo capacity, and 2000 pounds of towing capacity. This matches the Leaf's normal maximum cargo and tow rates. (Check the your drivers door sticker for your vehicles exact capacities.)

Additionally, 2” receiver are more stable, and there are more accessories made for them like bike racks and cargo carriers.

For these reasons I recommend the 2" EcoHitch # 306-X7221. I have included links to both hitches below.

If you tow with your Leaf you will also need a trailer lights wiring harness, ball, and ball mount. With your hitch install you will be working in the same areas that the wiring harness installs, so this would be an ideal time to install one. I recommend the Curt # C56227 wire harness. The T-connectors on this harness make installation easier.
