Replacement for Titan Model 6 Trailer Brake Actuator

Published 04/09/2020

Question:

The damper pin hole is slightly elongated and the bar on the master cylinder is bent. Is this repairable or time for a replacement? On a 7500 lb boat trailer is model 6 still a good choice?

That is a great photo, thank you; and while there are certain repair parts available for a Titan Model 6, I recommend replacing it altogether. The reason for this is the corrosion looks to have taken its toll on the actuator, and is at the point where a replacement makes the most sense in terms of safety and value.

The Titan Model 60 is still a good option, and the right one will depend on if you have disc or drum brakes:

- Disc Brakes: Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator - Disc - 2-5/16" Ball - Bolt On - 8,000 lbs # T4747200
- Drum Brakes: Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator - Drum - 2-5/16" Ball - Bolt On - 8,000 lbs # T4079200

There is another option you may want to consider checking out, which is from Demco. I really like these because of their eZ latch system that doesn't require any manual activation of the latch, it just snaps on. These actuators have a 4 inch drop, and like the Titans, also couple to a 2-5/16" hitch ball and have an 8,000 lb capacity:

- Disc Brakes: Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator with Drop - Disc - Zinc - 2-5/16" Ball - 8,000 lbs # DM8758811
- Drum Brakes: Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator w/ Drop - Drum - Zinc - 2-5/16" Ball - 8,000 lbs # DM8759411

I have added links to video reviews for you to check out as well.
