Most Popular Deep Snow for 2017 Ford Explorer

After trying unsuccessfully to locate tire chains for our 2015 Ford Explorer I turned to the Internet. The first company to come up on the Google search was etrailer.com. They had the chains I was looking for and shipped them the same day. I have not yet attempted to install them; however, they are just what I expected, based on past experience.

I placed my order late in the evening. I received immediate notification that it would be processed. The next day I received notice that they had upgraded my shipping from standard shipping to two day shipping free of charge. This was the first time I have ordered from e-trailer, but it wont be the last time. If that is how they take care of a brand new customer, they can count on me for repeat business.

These chains were amazing! I was a bit hesitant to go with chains over cables due to the car's manual saying to use cables, but after talking to Bob at etrailer, and watching the install videos, I went with them (on all four tires) and am glad I did! We went up to Yosemite for the New Year, and it snowed the day we drove in. We got through the gate into the park without needing chains, but once inside, the roads started to get covered, and though we have AWD, we don't have snow tires and the chains seemed like the best option. We pulled over and had the chains on all four tires within about 20 minutes. The car ran like a tank through the snow (and later, ice-covered roads) and I'm really happy we went with the chains rather than cables. After putting on the chains, we drove about 100 yards to check and tighten them. They were actually pretty tight - only had to tighten one. They really really came in handy driving through the Yosemite Valley, and the email responses I got from Bob prior to buying these showed me great customer service. The shipping speed was top notch as well, and overall, I'm happy that we went with etrailer to get these chains for our snow-covered trip to Yosemite.

Chains were ordered on a Sunday, and delivered on Wednesday! Amazing fast service! I have not had the ned to use them yet, but am heading down to Yosemite tomorrow -- very glad I have them in my truck, just in case...

Ordered chains on Monday, received them on Wednsday, earlier than I ordered, and exactly what I ordered. Can't beat that with a stick!

Exceptional product. Use same set on 2015 Land River and 2016 Toyota Tacoma. We drive from Portland to Timberline on most weekends to ski during winter season. Easy to put on and take off. Provides excellent traction; have experienced no issues. We put them on so quickly that others around us are clearly wondering how we do so. LOL....worth the investment would not do it any other way.

The chains come in a flat carrying case with pictures for instructions. On my first attempt in the garage it took me approximately 2 minutes to install the chains. Unfortunately I won't get to try them in winter weather road conditions for another 10 months. The 4 stars are for the carrying case, instructions that are labeled on the case, and for first time ease of installation.

A good choice for our new 2025 Highlander Hybrid XLE with 18" tires. Have occasional winter mountain snow needs, and like the easier install Chains came somewhat tangled, needing some patience to straighen our the first time. Expect less issue repacking them in the good carry case. A practice install highly recommended, as these are NOT the standard chains I had been used to. Seemed to install fairly tight first time. Just need some snow now. Happy with my choice so far. L

Written descriptions in the instructions would be nice. Took abut 20 min of flopping around till I got it right. Thank goodness for the picture of what hey are supposed to look like when mounted on the case or I still would be scratching my head. Also I'm not sure if you need to drive about 50 yards and correct the tension. But I guess I'll figure that out. All that said. After you do your trial install and see what's what, I don't see these taking much time to put on at all!

Only ordered because I needed chains for a trip. Paid extra to have chains delivered before my trip. Contacted etrailer to state the same. Chains arrived after I left for trip. Website needs to be corrected to reflect actual delivery times.

I have driven on these chains for a year. Here are my thoughts. They are probably good for someone who just needs to drive on a chain to get from their chalet to the ski lift while looking fly. However we own land in the mountains of Colorado about three miles up a private road that is unmaintained. We routinely face 6-8 inch drifts, steep inclines, and hairpin turns. When you can actually get this chain on, it works fine. However, after the first time, you will basically never get this chain on properly again. The first time I put them on, I was in love. Then I tried to take them off after getting a mix of heavy snow and dirt into the release canal. When you hit the quick release, it goes up about a quarter of the way, and you have to reach behind the wheel and pull to get the wire to release. From there, everything goes downhill. The wire stretches a little from having to pull it off the wheel. Then when you step on the quick tighten, it tightens, unless the snow underneath is too icy/firm, then it only tightens sort of. You can take it off and retry, but that loosens the wire a little bit more. Soon enough, the chain isn't actually tight against the wheel. But it stays on. Which is fine if you don't spin. But if you hit a spot where you spin, then the chain goes shooting off the back like a bola. You can put it back on, but it doesn't ever tighten down well enough again. Last time I went up to our property, I got in fine, losing one chain along the way, but when I tried to get out, got stuck three times because I couldn't keep the chains on my tires. Trying to get them on in deep snow, under tire spun icy snow, don't bother. TL;DR, great if you have to use them once or twice in cute, clean, snow. Anything of actual need, get different chains.

There is a learning curve to installation, even though these chains seem well-made and easier to use than other types. It can be difficult to center them on the tire. You have to have normal arm strength to lift and place them correctly.

I HAVE BOUGHT 3 PAIR OF CHAINS FROM etrailer AND GOT FAST SHIPPING ON ALL 3 PAIR . 2 DAYS EXC SERVIRE. THE LAST PAIR I BOUGHT WAS FOR MY UTV. THESE CHAINS WERE NOT MADE FOR THE UTV . I NEW THIS BEFORE I BOUGHT THEM . MY UTV HAS OVERSIZE TIRES ON IT AND ATV/ UTV CHAINS WANT FIT IT SO I BOUGHT THESE CHAINS , HAD TO CUT 10 INCHES OFF BUT THEY WERE WHAT I WANTED AND THEY WORK PERFIT.EXCELLENT SERVICE , THANKS etrailer.

The chain links broke off on both pairs on the first time using it. Also because I purchased the chains in the summer to prepare for winter I was told too much time elapsed and I couldn’t get my money back nor a free exchange. I was pissed to say the least. I definitely would not recommend these chains and if you’re going to purchase from this company make sure you purchase within the 30 days that you’re actually going to use the chains that way if anything goes wrong they’re within the time period to have something done about it.

Great Quality. Quick Installation and very easy to take off. Self-tensioning worked like a charm. I would definitely recommend them. I bought these to use on my 2023 Rav4 TRD Off-Road OEM Falken AT Tires. I highly recommend installing them at home a few times before heading up. Watching the etrailer videos on YouTube was also a huge help.

I just received the chains so have not done a test fit yet or found out how they work. What I can say is that the etrailer staff has been great from answering my questions before purchase and keeping me updated on the delivery status. Awesome delivery. As soon as they arrived, I decided to dry fit them as a practise for when I have to use them in anger. At first the end connector on the cam side was difficult to figure out because of the way the locking mechanism was positioned, but once you have it swinging freely, it becomes obvious how it secures to the end of the chain. In all it took me only a couple of minutes to install and I am very happy with how the cams tighten and pull it all nice and tight. I know the chains are designed to fit different sizes of tire, but a helpful guide would be to advise how many surplus chain links need cutting off to make the optimal fit for your specific tire. Once I had dry installed the chains, it was obvious that I needed to hack some of the links off. Once the links were removed, the chain ends secured to the correct end link on both sides and I don't have to worry about tucking away the danglers, which could damage my rim or bodywork. Another useful guide to include, would be a YouTube link or hyperlink for the installation video. I know it returns a hit on a Google search, but still a nice touch.

I had a heck of a time trying to get chains. No where locally, had the size I needed so I had to go online. etrailer.com was actually quick and easy to use. Found the ones I needed and got them ordered. It said it wasn't going to be delivered till the 27 or 28th... they came in on the 24th! Because of the fast delivery I was able to use them today and boy, did I need them! Snow, slippery, the road had kind of a step climb up to the job. Had a couple spots where I had to back up and take a different approach. Telling you, these chains were great! Thanks again for the quick delivery!

These are the best chains, hands down. I live off grid in an area where people constantly lose their vehicles or get them stuck. I need these half of the year and I've never been stuck, even with multiple feet of snow and ice. For most people I don't think you'll ever need replacement parts but for people like me they're easy to repair, diagnose, tighten etc. It's worth noting that you need some grip strength to tighten the cams, I haven't had issues but if you're a woman I'd recommend the "T" shape cam tightener etrailer sells so you can torque it better. It's important to note that these work great with even super knobby tires, so don't shy away if you need this style of chain. I can't recommend these enough, if you're a road traveler this is not the product for you but if you're on the farm, using this for a plow truck on an icy dirt road, going up snowy hills, going offroad in the snow, are camping in snowy wilderness etc this is for you. Just make sure you don't spin, because you can easily snap cross bars this way. etrailer is fantastic, as an aside and has been super helpful.

Very impressed! On a cement floor you can have the chains installed and snugged in under 10 minutes. Also an excellent increase in traction for a RWD van. Definitely recommend the konig XG-12's. Haven't installed while travelling but I don't think it will be very difficult.

These are really easy to put on and take off. I have used them three times on my 2019 chevy colorado (4wd) to deal with high elevation mountain snow. After each use, I washed them, hung to dry and then put back in the truck. They are so awesome, I recommend them to others.

Chains are perfect, mounted and tested, getting my snowplow ready for winter. I only had to cut a few links off of the ends for a perfect fit, I made sure the v-bars were all pointing out. I am anxious for our first snowfall. I am happy with all of my purchases from e-trailer

They worked good. I tried them a couple times before really needing them. One came off in trial run. The part that goes over the lug needs to be tightened correctly and kept on straight (and be sure to tighten until the wrench clicks) and then not over tighten rachet. I would recommend. I can use this set on multiple vehicles by adding screw tensioner or removing.

Easy to put on, easy to take off, in between nice to drive (on a Kia EV9). I also use those (in smaller size) with a Hyundai Ioniq 5.

We just finished two years of full-time travel around the US. I bought two sets of chains and they fit snuggly, as expected, on my LT 275/65 R18 tires. I also bought two types of chain binders to keep them tight and positioned correctly in different conditions. So, that's 4 chain & spring binders AND 4 rubber binders ... just in case. I mounted them all to test the fit and practice my skills and drove 4 mi. on a dirt road. All went well. As we zig zag around the US it's a smart move to carry these chains and binders with us. Many states in the west have highways and roads that mandate use of chains. I'm glad I didn't need to use them last year but I'm confident we're ready if need be. Have used tire chains for over 50 years. Took a chance on buying these for a new SUV despite misgivings over the large range of tires these are supposed to work with. Both as experienced user and retired design engineer, the range of tire sizes didn't make sense. Do they "fit". i.e. can they be installed, yes. Will they stay in place with use of proper placement and tensioners? Not above 10 mph. Writing these off as a bad investment and will design and build a set of custom chains that work.

Great product and excellent service. I originally ordered a chain from Konig and chose expedited shipping because I needed them to arrive in time for an upcoming trip to the Sierras. It was on a Sunday afternoon and within an hour I received a call from someone at etrailer letting me know that the product I had ordered was on back order and suggested this Titan model which was in stock (and less expensive!). They shipped the next day and I received them in time. I did use them on my 2018 Highlander on the trip. They installed easily, fit well and the traction was excellent even when driving up hills on local Tahoe roads in a major snowstorm. Highly recommended.

Great product and fantastic service too. I have only tried on the chains and have not driven in them yet but the case and quality of the items were very good and they were very cheap too. After my order they contacted me because the items were still on route to their warehouse and could not be distributed however they kept me in the loop all the way and provided a tracking number too. They came in just over a week so considering that they had a delay on receiving the item at their end and it had to cross east to west coast plus free delivery thrown in I was very impressed with the service I received. Apologies but can't comment on the actual chains as I haven't used them in anger yet however they were really easy to fit without the instructions, takes about a minute and all the different parts are colour coded. The Alloy chains are rust preventative but they feel heavy duty with a good all round pattern for extra forward and leeway grip, not a tacky or cheap feeling product, the case is pretty heavy when packed away so quite happy so far.
