Today we're going to review part number BWHB94009. This is the B & W 2 5/16" hitch ball with the long shank and a 30,000 pound weight capacity. Now, this hitch ball will provide connection point to the trailer's coupler. It is designed for very heavy-duty towing. It is a heat-treated steel which is very durable. It has a very raw finish to it.

The lock washer and the nut are included. A few specs on this, the ball diameter is 2 5/16." The weight capacity again is 30,000 pounds, which is stamped at the top of the ball. A few measurements on this, this has 4 1/2 threads per inch. The length of the shank is 3 1/2". The diameter is 2". It's a 2" diameter by 3 1/2" long shank. Again, just the way it would go together, you put your lock washer on.

Go ahead and put that onto the nut. Then you tighten that down. That should do it for the review of part number BWHB94009, B & W 2 5/16" hitch ball. .

I will start off by saying that it was not hard for me to locate the item I was looking for. Ordering was as normal as other sites. Delivery arrived a day early. I did order the proper ball, so no return.

The thing that got me, was everybody's bios. Looking at the tracking, I saw everybody that processed a step in my order. Haven't you heard about TMI. I am the person that is buying a product, not looking for a Date. If you sale good products and service, customers will return. Putting an individual Bio does not sale your products.

I bought a fleet truck that had a 3-inch 30,000 pound ball hitch with a 4 inch Shank. This one was only three and a half, but it worked fine.

This was the only one I could find with 4.5
threads per inch the next closest was 5 threads per inch which probably wouldn't fit.

I purchased a different truck that had an existing mount but didn't have the ball. I had to find a 2 5/16" ball with a 2"D shank. I could find these in a 10,000 version but I wasn't comfortable with that weight. I found this B&W ball from etrailer and when it came in it was exactly what I needed. It fit perfect. Recommended Replacement Gooseneck Hitch for Valley Stow-A-Ball Style Hitch in 2005 Chevy 2500
It looks like you have an old Valley Stow-A-Ball Gooseneck but it also looks like it is incomplete. Valley is no longer in business so that ball is no longer available. I've attached a photo of that style ball to help. There is not a gooseneck hitch that I'm aware of still on the market that doesn't use a locking pin, so I definitely recommend updating your system for safety. Dimension of the Hitch Ball Nut that Comes with the B&W 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # BWHB94009
I went out to the warehouse and found that the nut that comes with the B&W 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # BWHB94009 is 1-3/4" tall as you can see in the attached picture. The 2" diameter shanks that we have are all 3-1/2" long so there aren't any that are longer.

Replacement Ball for Colibert Gooseneck Hitch With 2" Diameter Threaded Shank
You may be able to replace your gooseneck ball with the B&W # BWHB94009. We don't have the dimensions to match it up with your Colibert hitch, but you can compare it to your current ball assuming you still have it. The shank dimensions are 2" diameter x 3-1/2" long and it has 4-1/2 threads per inch. If this matches the Colibert it will work as a replacement.

The highest-rated 2-5/16-inch standard hitch balls we have are 30K like the B&W # BWHB94009 that you referenced and the others that are shown on the linked page. Do note that these balls come with different shank diameters and different shank lengths to match your ball mount. The B&W has a 2-inch diameter shank that is 3-1/2-inches long.

I spoke to my contact at B and W and he informed me that the size wrench needed to tighten the nut of the # BWHB94009 would be a 2-15/16 inch and should be tightened to 120 ft lbs.

Possible Replacement Hitch Ball with 2-5/16 inch Diameter and Coarse Threads
The hitch ball # BWHB94009 from B&W has a 2" diameter x 3-1/2" long shank with 4-1/2 threads per inch. You'd have to compare that to the dimensions of the ball you sent in a picture of to see if this would work well as a replacement.

The Curt # C40088 and B&W # BWHB94009 are the only 2-5/16" hitch balls we have which utilize a coarse thread. These both have a 2" diameter shank. All our other options utilize a fine thread pitch.

The # BWHB94009 you were looking at is designed for use on ball mounts and wouldn't be the right option for your gooseneck hitch. Unfortunately a lot of older model Dodge Rams had this smaller gooseneck hitch installed and we currently don't offer a compatible replacement. The only solution I can offer would be to replace your current hitch with the B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch for Flatbed Trucks # BWGNRK1500.

Even though it is rated for 30,000 lbs, it is not made for a standard ball mount. The 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # C40088 and # BWHB94009 are the only hitch balls we carry with the 4-1/2" thread per inch coarse thread. These will not have the riser ball like you are looking for. These balls have a 2" diameter shank. For a riser ball you would have to look at the 2-5/16" Hitch Ball w/ 1" Rise # BWHB94005 or 2-5/16" Hitch Ball w/ 2" Rise # BWHB94006. These have fine threads 12 per inch and only a 1-1/2" diameter shank.

The 2-5/16" Hitch Ball - 2" Diameter x 3-1/2" Long Shank - Raw - 30,000 lbs part # BWHB94009 could be welded yes and if I were going to select a hitch ball to weld, it would be this one as the raw finish means very little prep involved before welding. That said, these aren't exactly designed to be welded so the weight capacity of said hitch ball would be dependent on the strength of the welds.

The B&W 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # BWHB94009 has that lip you referenced measuring 2.294 inches with a digital caliper. The shank is 2 inches as you stated so this hitch ball will work well for your application with that shelf being between 2-1/4 inches and 2-5/16 inches.

We do have taller gooseneck hitch balls that will provide around a 1 inch rise like the B and W High Rise Ball part # BWGNXA2050 but this ball only fits B and W Turnoverball gooseneck hitches.
