Roadmaster Anti-Sway Bars - RM-RBK24-RSSC

The sturdy steel spring on this stabilizer keeps your vehicle in line by constantly working to maintain its position. Mount it between the steering mechanism and the chassis for a tight connection that will minimize wander and correct oversteering.

Features:

  • Compensates for oversteering and returns your vehicle to center
    • Tempered steel spring works to return to its normal state - when compressed, spring pushes back into neutral position; when extended, it pulls back
  • Attaches to the steering mechanism on one end and to the chassis undercarriage on the other
    • Tight connection between these components keeps steering firm and controlled
  • Helps you to maintain control of your vehicle in the event of crosswinds, rut tracking, road edging or a tire blowout
  • Reduces road fatigue - stabilizer keeps you centered so that you don't have to work as hard to steer
  • Installs in approximately 1 hour with no drilling or welding
  • Includes stabilizer, custom mounting brackets, hardware and installation instructions
  • Made in USA
  • 1-Year limited warranty

A variety of things can make your vehicle veer - crosswinds, uneven pavement, tire blowout. The key to a pleasant, and safe, driving experience is learning how to deal with these situations. Roadmaster's Reflex Steering Stabilizer works to return your vehicle to center when something happens that causes it to swerve or jolt. As a result, you won't have to oversteer in an attempt to stay in line, thus minimizing road fatigue.

The stabilizer attaches to your vehicle's tie rod on one end and to the frame on the other. A heavy-duty steel spring runs the length of the rod, constantly working to keep steering controlled. If you steer your vehicle one way and it gets pulled the opposite way, the spring will stretch momentarily and then quickly pull back to its normal state. If you oversteer your vehicle in the same direction it is already moving, the spring will compress for a moment but then push back out to its prior state. No matter how you steer or how the frame is pushed or pulled, your vehicle will always return to center.

Video Transcript for Roadmaster Reflex Steering Stabilizer Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a looks at Roadmaster's reflex steering stabilizer with mounting brackets for class A motor homes. You'll want to verify in our fit guide which part number fits your inaudible 00:00:10.Now we're taking a drive without our steering stabilizer installed so we can compare the differences. Right now you can see there, when I hit bumps, you can see the wheel jerk. Once we get our stabilizer installed, that will help minimize those jerks in the steering wheel. What this means for you, is you're going to have more control over your vehicle, as well as it's going to reduce fatigue when driving down the road, because you're not going to have to fight to hold it straight like you we're before. As we head into our test course here, you're going to notice as we go over the various terrains, car's steering wheel's going to react. We're going to start with something that will simulate uneven pavement.

You can really see here how it jerks the wheel. Now you have to fight it to keep it straight. Next, we're going to be going over something that's going to simulate potholes or speed bumps. You can see how it still jerks the wheel, but not as bad as our uneven pavement did. Another think you'll notice is that when you're turning, on some of them back country roads, your steering wheel will return to center, but we'll see how much more our stabilizer's going to make a difference in bringing our vehicle straight for us.

As of right now, it continues to turn left and is not straightening out.Once we get our steering stabilizer installed, we'll show you the difference. You can already tell when we go over our bumps, our steering wheel doesn't move nearly as much as it used to. It's much easier to maintain control. We come around our turns, you see we let go of the wheel and it immediately bring our steering wheel back to center. Unlike before, where our wheel kept at an angle and our RV just went right around in a circle all by itself.

Here we can let go and watch it return. Now, as you can see when we're turning, you'll see our spring expand and contract. It pulls our steering back to center. You can see here as we go over bumps, the dampener bringing our steering back to center right away. What this really means for you, is it's going to help reduce driver fatigue by keeping the steering wheel straight, returning to center, doing a lot of the work for you. It's going to give you an overall more stable ride by keeping that wheel straight.

You're going to feel safer and more confident going down the road. This is what our steering stabilizer's going to look like when it's installed. It's going to mount between your tie rod and your front axle. It's going to help keep your vehicle in a straight line going down the road. This will help reduce driver fatigue, because you won't have to fight that back and forth motion while going down the road. It will also help stabilize your vehicle, making for a safer trip. This works using the large spring installed on the shock. As it expands and contracts, it's going to want to return to its normal position. Since we have it installed with our wheels in a straight line, it's going to try to bring those wheels back to a straight line. The shock inside of it is going to help absorb those impacts in the road, so if you hit any potholes or uneven terrain, that's actually going to help dampen it, making so you don't have so much of a jarring motion up on the steering wheel inside the vehicle. The spring is made of a tempered steel, so it's going to be durable and last a long time. It has a rust resistant coating on it as well to help extend the life. This will help improve the safety of your motor home, especially on those long trips, because of high crosswinds that you may encounter in certain areas, uneven rough terrain, and in the even of a blowout it will help you maintain control so you can safely pull over. It comes with all the hardware you need to get it installed. There's no drilling required and it's a really easy quick install. Our customer William J. Had to say, "Our Winny Brave experienced violent front end oscillation at three different times; after driving over diagonal rail road tracks on two occasions and once again after a pothole I had the front end aligned and it needed it. The shop recommended the steering damper to remedy the oscillation problem. I drove the unit 36 miles without the addition of the damper and handling was improved, but it still drifted and changed directions with road surface changes. I have put another 36 miles on the unit since the damper addition and I can feel the change. The steering feels rock steady with no side to side drift or direction change, even some over some of our local rough roads. We are planning a trip that will take us back over the diagonal railroad tracks and I can't wait to see if the violent oscillation is gone for good. Initial indications are that the problem is cure."William J.'s right. I could tell a major difference just driving around on our test course here and the few moments we had with it. Compared to other suspension enhancements out there, such as sway bars and air bags, none of those are really going to achieve the same level of stability that this is on your steering when going over bumps. Those are going to be great to help prevent sway and other things, but not for that direction of center that this is going to bring back. That complete our look at Roadmaster's reflex steering stabilizer with mounting brackets for class A motor homes.

Installation was easy. I’m 68 and had not problems laying on my back and removing the OEM parts and installing the Roadmaster parts with the front levelers up while in a campsite. I’m here for another month so I won’t see the effect of stabilizer until we leave. 506022

My wife and I installed the steering stabilizer along with the front and rear sway bars in one afternoon in our driveway. The combination has virtually removed side to side sway. Most notable is the reduction in the coaches reaction to semi’s passing. When cornering or on entering/exiting driveway ramps the coach remains flat. 503343

5 stars would buy again. The most noticeable improvement was from the sharp bumps and pot holes that would change steering angle. The assistance for return to center is nice as well. Add this along very large sway bars your Class C will drive much better. 476474

2018 Thor Freedom Elite Motorhome

If you are on the fence about installing a steering stabilizer just do it and be rid of the dangerously exhaustive driving and start enjoying your Motorhome. I am, by nature, a very skeptical person. However, the 2018 Thor Freedom Elite 26HE I own was a dangerous thing to drive. I already installed Air bags and a heavy duty rear sway bar; the Motorhome was no longer dangerous to drive but will work you to exhaustion fighting the wind and passing trucks. I researched and inquired about how to fix this and was told to install a steering stabilizer. After installing the Roadmaster Reflex Stabilizer I took my Motorhome for a drive expecting to be disappointed and more financially broke for chasing ghost; WOW was I wrong! I didn’t just notice a minor improvement but an improvement so major that I had to share this information with everyone I know and anyone I come in contact with that has the same problem. 612604

I installed this on my 31ft class c motorhome on a 2010 Ford e450 chassis. It was easy to install and I am very pleased with the results. It really tightens the steering up and the wheel does a great job at returning to center after a turn. On my vehicle I had to be extra careful it was not rubbing on the lower radiator hose and I had a helper turn the wheel lock to lock just to double check the clearances. I also installed new sway bars on the front and rear and my 7 ton Rv now handles as well as a suv. The communication from etrailer was excellent, I highly recommend the product and the company. 112519

2017 E-450 Class C RV. I just received the road master front anti-sway bar: RM-1139-176, rear anti-sway bar:RM-1139-147and steering stabilizer: RM-RBK24-RSSC . I unboxed everything and Wow! what a difference compared to the other items. My son and I decided to go ahead and install the steering stabilizer- RM-RBK24-RSSC and it took us right at an hour. we would stop and watch the e-trailer video to make sure we were doing a proper assembly. It is a very helpful tutorial. The only concern I have is how close the tie-rod end of the steering stabilizer is to the radiator hose. It looks like it could come in contact. What we are going to try is to get a old radiator hose and cut a section out of it and wrap around the area where the contact could occur. I will post an update when we get the sway bars installed 350487

Fast Shipping, product as described! The only issue is that it's not exactly the part # that fits my vehicle. This one (RBK24) is for the models that already have a factory installed steering stabilizer. The model for models with no steering stabilizer is the (RBK2). The RBK24 technically fits my vehicle, but there is no nut welded inside the frame. There are holes, but not big enough for the bolts (and not threaded). I will probably try to insert carriage bolt inside the frame to use this part. I much prefer this one, which is bolted to the frame, whereas the RBK2 is U-bolted to the i-beam axle... Not ideal in my opinion. I would simply suggest that the description of this product and the RBK2 cleary say that one is for models with factory installed steering stabilizer and the other one is for models with no factory installed SS. The vehicle fit tool indicates that both parts fit my vehicle (2009 Ford Van). Mine is a E-350 SuperDuty Class C V8 with single rear wheel. 470116

Two reviews - 1 for the product. 1 for etrailer. Product: Prior to purchasing this reflex steering stabilizer, the corresponding rear sway bar, and the front sway bar, driving our Thor FE30 was frequently a white knuckle experience. Our journey has frequently taken us on I-40 and I-10. Both roads are subject to high cross winds. Additionally, there is heavy semi-truck traffic on these Interstates. Our RV was difficult to control in both of these situations. Frequently we were pushed outside of our lane. The installation was super easy on all of the components thanks to the etrailer videos. I was concerned about my drill being able to fit into the tight space to drill the holes necessary for the rear sway bar. I bought stubby drill bits and that worked perfectly. I did not even need to lift the RV off the ground for any of the components. So far I have taken the RV on I35 twice. It was quite windy both times. It was like driving a completely different RV. No wandering out of the lane. The steering felt much more in control. etrailer: This is the second purchase that I have made from eTrailer. Both experiences have been fantastic. Both times I contacted eTrailer to make sure that I was getting the correct parts and all of the necessary components. Christina J helped me with the suspension and did a great job. The product reviews and installation videos are fantastic. I will continue to be an etrailer customer/fan. 475339

Received the package VIA UPS in 2 days. Checked contents and all parts were included. Installation took me about 1:20 min, I'm a senior, and it was only 35 Degrees out. Had to take a few warm up breaks. The new bolts for the frame bracket were the same thread size as original ones , but the heads were 17mm, the originals were 10mm , but no trouble installing them. You have to position the u-bolt bracket carefully to avoid the stabilizer from rubbing the radiator hose. I had about 1/4 space from the hose after I was finished. Took RV on a 25 mile road test, wind was blowing about 15mph. Steering was much improved. Noticed after turning a corner that the wheel did not take near as much driver input to return to center as it used to. Overall it seems to work pretty good. 347678

Etrailer did Excellent job, the ordering process was very efficient. The process time was fast. They shipped my order early; and I got the product in 4 days, not hassle. They kept me well informed form beginning to end and I will order form them again, when I have the need. This may be heavy duty front and rear sway bars. As for the stabilizer arm, I have yet to do a road trip with it installed. I got it to try and limit wind slip on the highway, in by Winnebago Aspect, on a Ford E450 frame. I do know it was the more cost effective solution as the next best option, a fully intergraded, hydraulic, computer control, steering stabilizer, which costs well over $1,000 and requires specialized installation. 50842

I installed the Steering Damper on my E450 MH. My only reservation is that there are no instructions about how to adjust if the MH pulls on side or the other after installation. The installation instructions stated that this can happen but provides no direction. Also, no information about the torque for the frame bolts. I called etrailer for information on Friday but tech support did not call back until Tuesday. I am not happy with this delay. Other than this, it was easy to install. It works very well. 427260

Comments

Jon, to summarize the adjustment, you should adjust the frame brackets in the opposite direction of the pull - in other words, move the bracket left for a pull to the right and move the bracket right to correct a pull to the left. The torque specs for the U-bolts may be found in the instructions located here:

What a difference this made. I was on the fence about this for quite a while because of the investment needed. Now that’s it’s on my 2018 Coachman Freelander 28QB sitting on a Ford E450 my only advice is don’t wait any longer, put this on as soon as possible! It took all of that steering wheel shake out. No need to hang on with a death grip anymore. The stabilizer is very easy to put on, it took me about 1 ½ hours to complete including taking the old one off. Just follow the great video and printed instructions from etrailer and you will have no problems at all. 664178

Just installed unit yesterday. In leading up to my purchase, the customer service people for your company have been great, answering all my questions or concerns. Although the unit was backordered, customer service kept in touch with me on expected arrival time of unit. The RV now wants to stay in the lane of the road and there is a big difference in correcting oversteer. Driving on a road with sweeping curves, the unit makes the RV handle so much better, almost like a car. The installation video was great to go along with the paper instructions supplied with unit. Would highly recommend etrailer and the Roadmaster Reflex Steering Stabilizer. 661765

I have noticed a big difference in handling following the installation of this anti-sway device. It has also dampened some of the vibrations I was picking up on irregular road surfaces. I would recommend this product to anyone who owns or manufactures coach's on the Ford E450 chassis. On my particular vehicle (following the advise Roadmaster tech support) I had to reverse the direction of steering control arm bracket to make it fit properly, which was quite easy. I have put about 3000 miles on it since then with no regrets. 658048

This rear anti-sway bar was installed in the 2018 E350 Thor Chateau U23 without any issue and without the need to drill the hole for upper vertical-run link. Have not done the test drive run yet to see the effect. 639304

This stablilizer made a big difference in handling of our motorhome. I also had a front end alignment performed on the Fotd E 350 chassis. The caster and camber were off and my front tires showed wear on the outer tread. Now the motorhome drives like a dream. I have recommended this stabilizer of RV social media groups. 635389

Installed this on a 2017 Fleetwood Class C on a E450 chassis along with upgraded front and rear sway bars. Very noticeable improvement of drivability. Still get a little sway in crosswinds but the improvement is night and day compared to the stock components. 583037

What a difference. Put this on about a year ago. Driver fatigue is gone. Adding this and a new set of HD Bilsteins totally changed my coach (2016 Coachman E350). I feel like I am driving my SUV. The play in the steering at highway speeds is gone. So much tighter. It amazes me that the Dealer did not sell any type of upgrade over the Ford OE suspension!! 580849

  • Helper Springs, Steering Stabilizer, and Anti-Sway Bars for RV Built on 2013 Ford F-350 V10 Chassis
  • To start I actually recommend Timbren rear helper springs # TFER35092B because they were specifically designed for RVs built on the 2013 Ford E-350 van chassis, have a lifetime warranty, and cost less than the SumoSpring options. They are rated at 3,600 pounds. For a steering stabilizer use the Roadmaster Reflex steering stabilizer # RM-RBK24-RSSC. For a front anti-sway bar you can use # RM-1139-176 which will replace the factory sway bar. And for the rear you can use # RM-1139-117....

  • Improving Steering on a 2018 Jayco Redhawk Class C on a Ford E-450 Chassis
  • From my research your 2018 Jayco Redhawk 31XL is a Class C motorhome built on a Ford E-450 chassis with a V10 engine. To improve the steering on your Jayco you'll gain the most improvement from the rear Rear Anti-Sway Bar # RM-1139-147. That would be followed by the Front Anti-Sway # RM-1139-176 and then the Steering Stabilizer # RM-RBK24-RSSC.

  • Recommended Suspension/Handling Enhancements for Motorhome Built on 2018 Ford E-450 Chassis
  • If your 2018 motorhome that is based on the Ford E-450 Series Cutaway is the V10 version then you can use Roadmaster Reflex # RM-RBK24-RSSC steering stabilizer. For a front anti-sway use kit # RM-1139-176 and for a rear anti-sway use kit # RM-1139-147. If you have the E-450 V8 version then you can use steering stabilizer # RM-RBK24-RSSC if the vehicle has an OEM factory damper; or if it does NOT have this feature instead use # RM-RBK2-RSSC. The same Roadmaster anti-sway bars noted above,...

  • Anti-Sway Bars Needed for a 2018 Thor Vegas Motorhome
  • Whether your 2018 Thor Vegas has the V8 or the V10 the front anti-sway bar is part # RM-1139-176 (which replaces your factory swaybar) and the rear anti-sway bar is part # RM-1139-147. Something else that you may consider is a steering stabilizer like part # RM-RBK24-RSSC which will fit if you have an OEM damper. The anti-sway bars are definitely the first solution to a smooth ride but if you find out that you would like more stability the steering stabilizer is a great product. I...

  • Recommended Anti-Sway Bars for 2018 Thor Axis Built on Ford E-450 Chassis
  • The best way to enhance the ride of your 2018 Thor Axis, which was built on a Ford E-450 chassis, is to add a rear anti-sway bar. After that you can further improve the ride by adding a front anti-sway bar and steering stabilizer; the combination of these three parts will dramatically increase the handling and comfort of your Thor Axis, allowing you to enjoy your time on the road instead of exhaustingly attempting to keep your rig centered at all times. • How to Improve Ride Quality of RV Built on 2017 Ford E-450 Chassis
  • It's hard for the chassis manufacturers for the RVs to know how the vehicle is going to react when the motorhome is installed on them since they deliver the chassis without anything installed on them. So typically the final product has some ride issues. The Ford E450 and F53 have a reputation for this as well. The biggest ride improvement you'll make is with a bigger rear sway bar like the # RM-1139-147 which is a confirmed fit. A front sway bar makes the next biggest improvement like...

  • Difference Between Roadmaster Steering Stabilizers for 2016 Ford E-450 Cutaway RV
  • There's not a whole lot of difference between the two part numbers. Basically it's a slightly different mounting bracket that comes with both. What happened was they had to make a new mounting bracket for newer versions of the chassis but found that there was some overlap between the year ranges they both fit. So # RM-RBK24-RSSC is a confirmed fit and would work well. The other number is no longer available.
