Ellen: Hey, everybody. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com, and we're taking a quick look at the Erickson Ladder Rack Strap. This is a ratcheting strap, so it's going to give you a really nice tight hold over all of your gear that you're holding up on your ladder rack, so any kind of conduit, maybe some siding, ladders, of course, and anything else that you might be putting up there. The really nice thing about this particular kit is that it's going to give you a ratchet strap that stays in place. It's fixed, so you don't have to get out the straps every time, untangle them, wrap them around your stuff, cinch it down together, and then do that whole process all over again whenever you take everything off. So, just is going to be there all the time so you have it when you need it. Even when you don't, it's at least got a spot to stay, so it's not going to be rattling around in your truck.
That's the really unique thing that I liked this.As far as the operation of the strap, it's pretty easy to do. It does have just a kind of standard design from Erickson, pretty easy to operate, and ratchets down pretty quickly as well and also gives you that quick retract as an added bonus, so you're not having to sit there and wrap up your straps every time if you want to keep them really nice and neat. So, really nice in that regard. The one downside that I see to this set is that you do have to drill through your ladder rack to get it in place. The way the bracket works, that bar is going to be going right in between here, so you do have to do some drilling. The nice thing about that, though, is that you can pick pretty much any spot that you want along that side rail if you've got a longer ladder rack to put this on, so you can get it wherever you want, and you can adjust it however you want it to be angled if you're using one of the round bar designs.
If you are putting this on a square bar, you are limited to getting it to fit in that angle, but that is something to keep in mind. This will require drilling to get it in place. It doesn't really have any instructions on how to do that, but I think as long as you just match up your drill bit with the hardware, you should be good there. You just want to be careful whenever you're drilling through that bar that you're keeping your drill and nice and level so that you're not getting off as far as those two holes lining up going through that beam. The molded spacers do allow us to fit different round sizes. So without the spacer, it works for a two-inch diameter bar, and then we'll have another spacer for 1 or 1 and then our square piece fits for 1 sided square bar.
The ratchet strap itself measures about nine feet long and two inches wide. It has a working load limit of 1,000 pounds. So that's going to be the max that you can actually hold with this. It does have break strength of 3000 pounds. You can get this kit as a single strap or as a double strap, probably a good way to go so that you have enough straps to get around all of your gear.
It's always a good idea to use two straps to secure any kind of load, just to make sure that you have more than one point of contact between those items.Pretty nice construction overall. I think this is overall going to be a nice kit to have on your ladder rack to give you that permanently mounted strap so that you're not having to fight with those straps every time. And that's pretty much all there is to it for our look at the Erickson Ladder Rack Strap. I hope this video has been helpful in deciding if this is the right kit for you. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com. Thanks for watching.
