This box is intended as a replacement breakaway kit battery case, but our neighbors love a good DIY project, and they've found that this box works well for their 12 volt, 5-amp battery that powers their depth or fish finder. And because it has a lockable lid, it seems to be working great for storing documents like fishing licenses in between trips, so you'd never be caught out on the water without your permits.

Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Curt Battery Box for break away kits. This is a replacement battery case that's going to house and protect your break away battery and charger. It's a top loading case that's very easy to access from above. Give you a look at the inside real quick. It's got the raised portions on the inside there on the very bottom to keep the battery elevated from the very bottom of the case. When we do measurements, I'm actually going to be giving us an internal height measurement, and I'll be measuring from the top of that raised portion to the lip right here at the top of the case. I also want to point out that this is lockable, so you can place a padlock through the hole right here to lock the case.
Padlocks are sold separately. If you're in need of one, you can find them at etrailer.com. This will accept a padlock with a 1/4 inch diameter shackle. This is a weather resistant polyethylene construction. It's going to do a great job at protecting your battery and charger from moisture and debris.
Bolt on installation. Hardware's not included, so that does need to be provided separately. I do want to point out that it has the grooves here. That way it can be used with a break away battery box mounting bracket. Now we're going to take a look at the dimensions real quick. I'm just going to measure really here at the base.
External dimensions: we're looking at about 5 inches by 4 inches, and the height about 3 and 1/4 inch tall at the top. It's going to give us a width measurement of about 4 and 1/8 by a little bit closer to 5 1/2. Internally, it's going to measure 4 3/4 by 3 1/2. I'm going to give you the overall height inside the box, so measuring from the very bottom like the floor to this point right here. That's going to give a measurement of about 2 5/8 of an inch, and then measuring from the top of those raised portions in there to the lip, we're looking at about 2 3/8 of an inch. It's also going to feature the groove or the cut out right here that we can feed your wires through without them being pinched.
