I would have given 5 stars if Dexter offered self-adjusting brakes in the 4400lbs model. Looks like a quality part, but won't be able to install until I get further along with the restoration project. Just glad this weight rating still available.

  • Does My Trailer Use Replacement Brake Assembly K23-462-00 or 23-454?
I would be happy to help! Since your brake assembly is stamped K23-462-00 you will want to go with the Dexter Electric Brake Assembly for 4.4K Axles # K23-462-00 and you can confirm that this is the correct assembly and not just an incorrect sticker by measuring the 4 bolt pattern of the brake assembly. This brake assembly has a 4 bolt pattern that measures 2-7/8" between the center of the upper bolts, 3-1/4" between the centers of the lower two bolts, and 3" between the upper and lower...

  • Adding Electric Drum Brakes to Tandem Axle Magic Tilt Boat Trailer
Electric drum brakes are being found as original equipment on boat trailers more and more often, for their simpler installation and lower overall cost. They are used with brake controllers like the reliable Prodigy P2 # 90885. The linked article covers the entire process of adding electric drum brakes to a trailer and the linked page will display all electric brakes for 4400-lb-rated axles, which are the 10 x 2-1/4-inch size. If you have Dexter axles made before May 2009 you can use left...

  • Picking Out Trailer Brake Assemblies that Have Bolt Pattern 2-7/8 inch by 2-7/8 inch
The 2-7/8 inch square bolt pattern that you need is a very common bolt pattern for 4-bolt brake assemblies that are 10 inch in diameter. The # 23-454 that you referenced uses a smaller bolt pattern at 2-13/16 inch by 2-13/16 inch which was common for brake assemblies made before 2009. The # K23-478-00 that you also referenced does not use a square bolt pattern at all so what you'd really be in need of is # 23-27 for the right hand side and # 23-26 for the left hand side.

  • Replacement Electric Brakes for a 2007 Jayco Jay Feather EXP w/Dexter Manual Adjust & EZ Lube Axle
Typically to determine the correct size of brakes on your 2007 Jayco Feather EXP you have to pull off the wheel and the hub and drum assembly and measure according to the attached diagram. You will also want to know the capacity of your axle, this will be listed on a placard on the axle itself. While under the trailer you also may be able to look at the back of the brake assembly for the make and model number stamped into it. With that information, I may be able to determine what brakes...

  • Replacement Brake Shoes for Dexter 4400 Pound Axles Made Before 2009
I was able to determine that the old style D44 axle brake assemblies such as # 23-454 use the same shoes as the new versions. For one wheel you will need # BP04-095. the shoes for 3500 pound axles have a bit of a different design.

  • Brake Assembly Mounting Flange Bolt Pattern on 3500lb Axle
For a 3500 lb axle, having a mounting bolt pattern of 2-7/8 inches is typical. The only exception would be for a few 4400 lb axles, which use a mounting bolt pattern of 2-13/16. I checked with Dexter Axle, and was told that the 69-47 designation wasn't an axle part number. On the back of the axle tube, there should be a nine digit serial number. If you can provide that number, I can certainly check back with them. The easiest way to determine which assembly you need would be to remove...

The 2-7/8" bolt pattern for the brake assemblies # AKEBRK-35R-SA and # AKEBRK-35L-SA as well as the 2-13/16" bolt pattern for the brake assemblies # 23-454 and # 23-455 has to do with where the mounting bolts are for the assemblies to the brake flange on your spindle (see attached photo). The bolt pattern for your wheels has to do with the bolt locations on the hub and drum assembly. For example, the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 8-407-5UC3-EZ that is rated for 4,400 lb axles has a 6...
