Question:
I want to replace the electric brakes on my 2006 Wells Cargo CycleWagon 7foot x 12foot tandem axle. The spec plate on the trailer states 3500 lb axles and it has 10inch drums. I measured the mounting hole spacing and with all of the rust it is hard to tell if it is 2 7/8inch or 2 13/16, but it looks more like 2 13/16. The number stamped on the axle is Dexter 69-47. Is there anyway to find out the hole spacing without taking the brakes off? Id rather not take the old brakes off until I get the new ones.

For a 3500 lb axle, having a mounting bolt pattern of 2-7/8 inches is typical. The only exception would be for a few 4400 lb axles, which use a mounting bolt pattern of 2-13/16.
I checked with Dexter Axle, and was told that the 69-47 designation wasn't an axle part number. On the back of the axle tube, there should be a nine digit serial number. If you can provide that number, I can certainly check back with them.
The easiest way to determine which assembly you need would be to remove one of the assemblies. You'll need to remove them anyway to replace them, so you might as well remove one to ensure you get an accurate measurement now.
If you have a 2-7/8 bolt pattern on a 3500 lb axle, I'd recommend the etrailer.com self adjusting brake assembly. Use # AKEBRK-35R-SA for the right side of the trailer and # AKEBRK-35L-SA for the left. For a 4400 lb axle with a 2-13/16 bolt pattern, use # 23-454 for the left side and # 23-455 for the right.
