Features to know about

Rated to Handle the Heaviest 5th Wheels

Q Hitch installed in truck bed

This hitch is built from heavy-duty steel and rated for 25,000 lbs GTW, giving you the muscle to handle even the biggest, fully loaded 5th-wheel campers with confidence. And it gives you room to grow if you move to a larger 5th wheel down the line. Plus, the protective powder coat helps resist rust and wear over time, so you can rely on it season after season. This sturdy construction provides a strong base to a hitching system that feels just as solid when you back in and hitch up.

Full-Contact Jaw Connection

Q Hitch open jawsQ Hitch closed jaws

Slide-bar and single-jaw hitches are known for leaving too much room around the king pin. That looseness leads to noise, slop, and an unsettling feel on the road. This dual-jaw system wraps tightly around the king pin from all sides to create a stable connection that feels locked in as soon as you hitch up. It holds firm to reduce noise and cut down on movement. You'll notice the difference the first time you tow.

Know When You're Locked

Q Hitch color coded indicator

Before you pull away, a quick glance at the color-coded indicator shows you exactly what the jaws are doing: red means uncoupled, yellow means ready to couple, and green means you're locked in for towing.

Q Hitch indicator on handle

There's no need to climb into the bed to check the connection since you can easily see the color at a glance. If you've ever thought the jaws were locked only to find out they weren't, you know how bad things can get. This system keeps that from happening.

Quiet, Fluid Motion on the Road

You'll feel the change as soon as you're moving. The hitch head pivots smoothly on a spherical axial bearing, allowing full 360-degree movement. As the head moves, rubber bushings help absorb shock and reduce the jerking motion that leads to chucking. It's not just about softening the impact of rough roads. It's about helping you stay more comfortable behind the wheel by reducing the constant shifting and jolts that wear you down over time. From campground runs to multi-state road trips, the ride feels more stable, more responsive, and less like a fight with every bump.

Remove the Hitch in Two Steps

When the trip is over and you need your truck bed back, the hitch breaks down in two steps without tools. Just pull the first set of pins to lift off the head, then a second set to remove the base. This separates the hitch into manageable pieces and makes it easier to handle on your own. The parts are still relatively heavy, but this design takes some of the strain out of the process. It's a solid solution for anyone switching between trip mode and work mode where being able to clear your bed matters.

Everything You Need to Install

This hitch ships as a complete package with the head, legs, custom-fit brackets, base rails, and all necessary hardware. The brackets are designed specifically for your vehicle and line up with existing holes in the truck's frame, making installation faster and more straightforward. Then, the above-bed rails mount to the frame and provide a strong, standardized platform for the hitch to lock into. You've got everything you need to get it installed right the first time, whether you're doing it yourself or taking it to a shop.

Video Transcript for What to Know About the Curt Universal Fifth Wheel Base Rails

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at the CURT Universal Carbide Black Finish Fifth Wheel Base Rails. Now, these base rails will install in your truck bed. And they provide the necessary attachment points for your fifth wheel hitch installation. Now, when these rails are used with the CURT's Custom Mounting Brackets, which we sell separate on a website, these rails will cut in half the time it takes to install your fifth wheel trailer hitch.

We mentioned the finish on this. I'm gonna zoom in and sort of show it. It's a carbide black finish, sort of like a matte black finish, so it matches the finish if you use it on the CURT Q5 20K Fifth Wheel Hitch. Now, these rails are universal, so they will work with the following fifth wheel hitches. They work with the CURT brand, the Draw-Tite, the Hidden Hitch, the Reese, and even the Husky.

This part here will include the two base rails. Now, we mentioned the mounting brackets, the custom mounting brackets, the hardware, and an installation kit is all sold separately. The length on these rails, if we put a tape measure on them from one end to the other, right at 43 inches long. But that should do it for the review on the CURT Universal Carbide Black Finish Fifth Wheel Base Rails.

  • Will Demco Custom Base Rail Brackets Fit 2002 Ford F-150
Hey Dennis! The # DM8552006 are only designed for the 1999-2004 F-250 and F-350. Are you looking for base rails with custom brackets for your F-150? If that is the case, I recommend the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit for Ford F150 # C16437-204. This includes the base rails along with the custom bracket kit.

  • Will Curt Universal 5th Wheel Install Kit Fit a 2002 Ford F-150
Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16116 comes with a universal installation kit and that kit does fit your 2002 Ford F-150. If you would rather go with a custom installation kit you can use # C16437-204 with hitch # C16115. Custom installation kits are easier to install and require less drilling for installation.

  • Curt Fifth Wheel Hitch Installation Kit for 2002 Ford F150
The part you've asked about, # C16204 is the bed mounted fifth wheel base rails only. It does not include the frame mounting brackets or the installation hardware. For the complete kit that's compatible with your truck, you'd want # C16437-204.. The install rails are compatible with fifth wheel hitches that use industry standard rails, which includes Valley, Husky, Reese and Curt, among others. If your truck currently has a Gooseneck hitch with a 2-5/16 inch ball that sits in the truck...

  • Can I Tow a 5th Wheel Trailer with a 2002 Ford F-150 with a 5-1/2 Foot Bed
I'll start by saying that we do not recommend that you install a fifth wheel hitch on a 2002 Ford F-150 with the 5-1/2 foot bed. You would have to use a Sidewinder pin box with a standard hitch, which moves the pivot point back 22 inches toward the tailgate; and even with the Sidewinder installed on your vehicle you will not get enough clearance between the truck cab and your fifth wheel when making a 90 degree turn. We recommend at least 4 inches of clearance and with the Sidewinder it...

  • Can 2002 Ford F-150 Short Bed Tow Fifth Wheel Trailer
Looks like your 2002 Ford F-150 has a shorter than usual truck bed. Can you get me the length of it? We only have fifth wheel options for your truck for 6-1/2 foot and 8 foot but yours appears to be shorter than that. If you have a 6-1/2 foot bed you'd want a slider hitch like the Curt A16 Hitch part # C16521 with a set of custom install fifth wheel rails like the part # C16437-204 which are confirmed for your truck. The custom install kits install in much less time than the universal...

  • 5th Wheel Mounting Rail Kit for 1997 Ford F-150
You were on the right track with the Reese Universal Base Rails # RP30035 ! This kit will mount to the frame of your truck and works on both the 6-1/2 foot and 8 foot beds on the F-150. This kit will provide you with a set of bed rails to install any 5th wheel hitch that mounts into the industry standard 5th wheel rails- the only drawback is that there is some drilling required for this kit. For that reason you may instead want to go with the Curt Custom Installation kit # C16437-204 which...

  • 5th Wheel Installation Kit for a 1997 Ford F-150 Short Bed and Valley Glider Hitch
It looks like your Valley 5th wheel hitch installs in industry standard above the bed rails. For your 1997 Ford F-150 short bed you can use Curt custom installation kit # C16437-204. Using this kit means that you will not have to drill into the truck frame for installation. And the rails will accept a Valley hitch that fits in above the bed rails. You can also use the universal kit # RP30035 but drilling into the truck frame is required. It will not fit if you have a SuperCrew model.

We have the exact installation kit for you, the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit for Ford F-150 and F-250 # C16437-204. This install kit will give you base rails so you can mount the Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # 16516. This kit is great because it does not require drilling into your frame rails to install, which is not only very good for your truck but it also makes the installation easier and take less time to install. • Installing 5th Wheel Rail Kit in 2000 Ford F-150 Without Frame Drilling
For your 2000 Ford F-150 you can use the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP50042-58 or the Curt # C16437-204 for your industry standard 5th wheel base rails. These will not require drilling into your truck frame for installation because the brackets will utilize holes already in the factory frame. If you already have the rails, then you can use the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Bracket Kit # C16437 for the frame brackets.

To add a set of 5th wheel rails and brackets to a 1997 Ford F-150 super cab, I recommend the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit item # C16437-204. This kit is custom fit and installs in existing holes in your trucks frame. These rails have a carbide black finish and are compatible with Curt 5th wheel hitches. • Fit
Yes the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit part # C16437-204 is a confirmed fit for your 2003 Ford F-150 with the 6.5' bed. It works great with most fifth wheel sliding hitches that use the industry standard bed rails like the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R16 Slider part # C16521. The use of a sliding hitch is recommended with the shorter bed to pervent the fifth wheel from making contact with the cab of your F-150. Most folks want to have a wiring connector in the bed of...

  • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch and Install Kit for a 2002 Ford F-150 SuperCrew
Are you talking about a Crew Cab or a SuperCrew cab? If you are talking about the SuperCrew cab with the 5-1/2 foot bed then you can install Curt installation kit # C16437-204. On the 5-1/2 foot beds you will need to use Demco HiJacker 5th wheel hitch # DM8550040 because it has 22-1/2 inches of travel for greater clearance when making tight turns. On the super short beds you will need as much clearance as you can get to avoid hitting the trailer against the truck cab.

Your existing RBW Lil Rocker 5th Wheel Hitch is compatible with industry standard, above-bed base rails. With this in mind, I recommend going with a set of custom rails like the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit # C16437-204. For a hitch though, you are going to need to use a sliding hitch like the Curt Q25 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R24 Slider # C16566, but if you have a long bed you can use a fixed hitch like # C16180.

There is a Husky fifth wheel rail kit available for your 2000 Ford F-150 short bed, part # HT31409-686. But since this is a universal fit kit I wouldn't recommend it as your best choice. Reese does not offer their Elite style of under-bed rails for your 2002 Ford F-150 so you wouldn't be able use the Elite slider hitch you mentioned in your truck. You'd need to use an above-bed style of slider hitch like the Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ S20 Slider # C95DR. Short bed trucks require a slider hitch unless the trailer is very narrow or has a tapered front cap designed to be towed by a short bed truck.
