The Recon’s wraparound, single-piece jaw completely surrounds the king pin for 360-degree contact. That design, reinforced by a 3/4" thick solid steel locking bar, gives a tight, stable grip that minimizes rattle and chucking. The locking bar automatically engages when the jaw closes, so once you’re hitched, you know your trailer is locked in securely for the long haul.

The double-pivot head moves both front to back and side to side, letting the trailer follow naturally through dips and turns. Built-in polyurethane dampeners cushion that movement and absorb road shock, keeping things quiet and controlled. With this setup, you’ll notice smoother towing and less jarring motion over rough stretches.

When towing duty is done, the hitch’s lightweight, 2-piece build makes it easy to lift out without extra equipment. The head slides off after pulling a single pin, and the base releases from the gooseneck ball so you can get a clean, open bed for hauling gear or materials. Reinstalling is just as fast—attach the base to the 2-5/16" ball, drop in the head, set your height, and you’re ready to tow again.

The included underbed installation kit is Curt’s Double Lock gooseneck system, giving you two towing options in one setup. It handles up to 30,000 lbs gross towing weight with a 7,500 lbs tongue weight rating and uses a 2-5/16" ball. When you’re not pulling a fifth wheel, flip the ball over for a smooth bed floor or hook up a gooseneck trailer—no extra hardware needed.
This fixed fifth-wheel hitch is rated for 21,000 lbs gross towing weight and a 4,000 lbs vertical load limit. Three height settings—15-1/2", 17-1/4", and 18"—let you dial in your trailer level and clearance. The sturdy steel construction with rust-resistant black powder coat keeps it solid trip after trip with a stable feel that inspires confidence behind the wheel.
This fifth-wheel hitch is not compatible with rotating pin boxes.

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Replacement Base Assembly for the Demco Recon Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter. This has a 21,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now this part will replace just the base assembly that's on the Demco Recon Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter, which is part number DM8550045. Now that adapter, we do sell separately on our website. Now this is just for the base assembly.
It does not include the hitch head. The hitch head bolts to this center post here. The hitch head, we do sell separately. It's part number DM6169. The center post right here that the hitch head attaches to, has three different height settings to fit your application.
And the hitch height is critical 'cause when you go to tow your fifth wheel, you do wanna make sure you're towing as level as possible. And hitch height is always measured from the top of the truck bed to the top of the hitch head. And now the hitch height settings on this center post, there's three holes in it. So it gives you a selection of three different hitch height settings. Either a 15-and-a-half inch, 17-and-a-quarter-inch or 18-inch hitch height setting.
You just pick the one that works best for your application. Now, this base also, when you do install this over the gooseneck ball, it does give you a three-inch offset for extra clearance of your fifth wheel. It is is a sturdy steel construction. Has a nice rust-resistant black powder coat finish on it. And it is a quick, simple installation.
Basically, this just installs over the gooseneck ball and it's held in place with the pin and clip. And also these two set screws right up front here. This part is made in the USA and again, the gross towing weight capacity on this base assembly is 21,000 pounds. But that should do it for the review on the Replacement Base Assembly for the Demco Recon Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter..

Excellent hitch to date and still very happy. Have pulled my fifth wheel around the country with zero issues. I see people with $1800 hitches that have minor slop and problems hooking up at minor funny angles. This hitch is strong, simple, and very secure. No slop.

I have a solution to your issue. The bag with the bolt and nut for the hitch handle should have came with a small round dampener that stops the hitch head from flopping back and forth in the truck. The urethane compresses under a load so it does not restrict the fore and aft movement when coupled. Before you attach the hitch head to the saddle assembly the dampener will need to be installed. Simply press it into the hole that is punched into the bottom side of the hitch as shown in Figure A of the instructions: https:cdn.demco-products.comdocumentsHJ26169.pdf

Pretty good. Still rotating a little. I tightened the main bolt to the ball more than the 30lbs. It’s not rotating as much as it has been. Still haven’t figured out if or where I would drill a hole for a bolt to go in. I’m not really wanting to do that yet.
