This hitch is made for serious towing. It’s rated for 21,000 lbs gross towing weight with a 4,000 lbs vertical load limit, giving you the strength needed for large fifth-wheel trailers and long hauls. The sturdy steel construction and rust-resistant black powder coat finish keep it solid and reliable over time. When every mile counts, this hitch gives you the kind of stability that makes towing feel secure and predictable.
The wraparound, single-piece jaw fully surrounds the king pin for 360-degree contact. That tight fit means less rattle and more security than standard slide-bar jaws. A 3/4" thick solid steel locking bar reinforces the connection and automatically locks when the jaw closes, so you can tow knowing your trailer is firmly coupled. The result is a smooth, quiet ride with fewer jolts or clanks along the way.

The double-pivot hitch head moves front to back and side to side to match your trailer as you drive. Polyurethane dampeners are built into the head assembly to cushion that motion and help absorb road shock. The head also pivots automatically when connecting to the pin box, making hookup easier and reducing strain on both truck and trailer.

This setup uses a Curt Double Lock gooseneck hitch as its underbed installation kit, so you can tow a gooseneck trailer or a fifth wheel using the same system. Remove the Recon hitch and drop in the 2-5/16" chrome ball when switching modes. When you want a clear bed, just flip the ball upside down into the hole and cover it with the included rubber cap—no tools needed to go from towing to hauling.
Getting this hitch in or out of your truck bed doesn’t take special gear or extra hands. The lightweight, two-piece design lets you lift off the head and base separately for simpler handling. Assembly is quick—attach the base to the gooseneck ball, slide in the head, choose one of three height settings (15-1/2", 17-1/4", or 18"), pin it in place, and tighten it down to cut out movement and rattle.

This fifth-wheel hitch is not compatible with rotating pin boxes.

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Replacement Base Assembly for the Demco Recon Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter. This has a 21,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now this part will replace just the base assembly that's on the Demco Recon Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter, which is part number DM8550045. Now that adapter, we do sell separately on our website. Now this is just for the base assembly.
It does not include the hitch head. The hitch head bolts to this center post here. The hitch head, we do sell separately. It's part number DM6169. The center post right here that the hitch head attaches to, has three different height settings to fit your application.
And the hitch height is critical 'cause when you go to tow your fifth wheel, you do wanna make sure you're towing as level as possible. And hitch height is always measured from the top of the truck bed to the top of the hitch head. And now the hitch height settings on this center post, there's three holes in it. So it gives you a selection of three different hitch height settings. Either a 15-and-a-half inch, 17-and-a-quarter-inch or 18-inch hitch height setting.
You just pick the one that works best for your application. Now, this base also, when you do install this over the gooseneck ball, it does give you a three-inch offset for extra clearance of your fifth wheel. It is is a sturdy steel construction. Has a nice rust-resistant black powder coat finish on it. And it is a quick, simple installation.
Basically, this just installs over the gooseneck ball and it's held in place with the pin and clip. And also these two set screws right up front here. This part is made in the USA and again, the gross towing weight capacity on this base assembly is 21,000 pounds. But that should do it for the review on the Replacement Base Assembly for the Demco Recon Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter..

It works really well. I use it to pull my fifth wheel trailer loaded with firewood firewood to central GA from south GA.
I like the hitch but for some reason after a long trip it seems to get loose and buck a little bit even after I torque it to spec! Other than that it's a great hitch.
Hitch works great and delivery from etrailer was fast.
Easy to read and install. Just received it although it covers my safety chain brackets, should be a easy fit!
Ultra Fast shipping and delivery Josh in costumer service awesome for getting dimensions quickly from Demco not listed easy install just waiting on RV to arrive to go pick it up.
I like the ability to remove the entire hitch and only leave a small round plug on the bed floor.
Easy to set up and use I borrowed a buddies cause I bought a camper and didn’t have a hitch set up in the bed of my truck just had the goose neck ball pulled real nice so I order o e just like it
Easy install. This set up makes switching between 5th wheel and Gooseneck a breeze.
It is heavier built than I expected, haven't gotten to use it yet, but I'm itching to. Extremely happy with the set up of the hitch. The welds are all clean and solid. I will write another review after my first use. But overall I'm extremely happy with the hitch so far. Good job Demco and thank you etrailer for a very easy and stress free transaction.
I think the representative was awesome
I bought this to replace a Demco Autoslide hitch. The Autoslide was great but too heavy for me. Because of my bad back, this was a great choice! The hitch is awesome, easy to put in and out. Quiet and smooth towing. Thx E-Trailer!
Very noisy!! Makes you think something broke. It’s good if you don’t want to break the bank. But when parking you’ll hear the loud noises coming from the hitch. Other than that it works fine.

I have a solution to your issue. The bag with the bolt and nut for the hitch handle should have came with a small round dampener that stops the hitch head from flopping back and forth in the truck. The urethane compresses under a load so it does not restrict the fore and aft movement when coupled. Before you attach the hitch head to the saddle assembly the dampener will need to be installed. Simply press it into the hole that is punched into the bottom side of the hitch as shown in Figure A of the instructions: https:cdn.demco-products.comdocumentsHJ26169.pdf
Come packed well. Got very fast. And very easy to install in 2024 ram 3500
Etrailer description failed to mention that this would not work with a B&W OEM prep ball. They did have a recommendation for a ball so add $[XX] plus a month wait for the ball that works.
So far so good pulling my fifth wheel around. I went this route so I could have dual purpose and not corner myself with just a drop in plate with my trucks factory fifth wheel package. No issues with this hitch, locks tight and no slop.

Excellent hitch to date and still very happy. Have pulled my fifth wheel around the country with zero issues. I see people with $1800 hitches that have minor slop and problems hooking up at minor funny angles. This hitch is strong, simple, and very secure. No slop.
Part was delivered vey damaged. Looks like a couple thousand miles has already been put on it and it’s not even installed yet! Missing Lynch pin .313 is missing! Not happy at all.
I like it’s design and how it sits in the bed. It seems to want to rotate some while pulling. I see some reviews that other people are having this problem also. Some have put a bolt down through the base into the truck bed. I haven’t wanted to do that as of yet. Otherwise I like the hitch.

Pretty good. Still rotating a little. I tightened the main bolt to the ball more than the 30lbs. It’s not rotating as much as it has been. Still haven’t figured out if or where I would drill a hole for a bolt to go in. I’m not really wanting to do that yet.
