Features to know about

Stay in the Cab on Tight Turns: Automatic Slider with 14" of Travel

This hitch takes the hassle out of short-bed towing with an automatic slider that gives 14" of additional clearance when turning. No more climbing in and out of the truck to pull a lever—rack-and-pinion gears move the head smoothly toward the tailgate as you turn and back toward the cab as you straighten out. The motion is controlled and consistent, so even slow-speed maneuvers in tight spaces feel predictable and stress-free.

Demco Hijacker Autoslide fifth wheel hitch head with adjustable capture brackets securing standard pin box for stable towing performance.

Lock In a Solid Connection: Wraparound Single-Piece Jaw and 3/4" Locking Bar

The wraparound, single-piece jaw fully surrounds the king pin for 360-degree contact, giving you a secure, tight connection that cuts down on rattle and chucking. A solid 3/4" steel locking bar reinforces the hold, automatically engaging when the jaw closes. It’s a simple design that makes hitching up feel solid every time you back in.

Smooth Out the Ride: Double Pivot Head with Polyurethane Dampeners

The double-pivot hitch head flexes front to back and side to side to help reduce jarring and noise on rough roads. Three polyurethane dampeners cushion that movement—two built into the head for side-to-side pivoting and one underneath for front-to-back motion—so you get a quieter, smoother ride with less strain between truck and trailer.

Set Up Without Fuss: Custom Underbed Mounting Kit and Adjustable Height

The included underbed mounting kit keeps your bed rail-free when the hitch is out, giving you full use of the space. The side plates bolt on easily and offer three height settings—15-1/2", 16-3/4", and 18-1/4"—to help level your trailer setup. Once it’s in place, turn the handles to lock it down in the receivers or release them to lift it out when you need to clear the bed.

Built for Heavy Loads: 21,000 lbs GTW and 5,250 lbs Vertical Load Limit

Made from sturdy steel with a rust-resistant black powder coat finish, this hitch is rated for 21,000 lbs gross towing weight and a 5,250 lbs vertical load limit. That strength gives you confidence towing big fifth wheels across long trips while keeping everything stable and under control mile after mile.

Video Transcript for Feature Review Demco Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for Ram

Today we're going to take a look at the replacement side plates for the Demco Hijacker Autoslide fifth wheel trailer hitches, and this is for the underbed mount. Now this will replace the side plates that came standard with your Demco Hijacker Autoslide underbed fifth wheel trailer hitch. They are designed to bolt onto your hitch base so that you can attach your hitch to the custom underbed rails. This is designed to fit the 13,000 pound Hijacker, Part Number DM8550041. It also fits the 18,000 pound Hijacker, DM8550022, and the 21,000 pound Hijacker, DM8550037 models. This is a simple bolt-on installation to your hitch base. There are multiple rows of bolt holes on these side plates and on your hitch base, so depending how you line them out, it will let you adjust the hitch height.

The hitch height settings will go from either 15-1/2 inches to 16-3/4 and 18-1/4, so you have your choice of those three settings to get your trailer and tow vehicle as level as possible. These do have a rust-resistant black powder coat finish. They are an all-steel construction. It does include the instructions. It will include the mounting hardware, and it also includes two 1/4-inch spacers and two 3/8-inch spacers, and the spacers are used for adjusting your hitch mount with the bed pockets of your truck, and this part is made in the U.S.A. The way that these would open up is you just pull the clip, pull the pin out, and you can see each one of these will rotate out, and when you rotate those out, it will let you drop it into your underbed mount, and then once there, you just turn this back in to lock it, and then put your clip right through there just like that. This part is made in the U.S.A. That should do it for the review of the replacement side plates for Demco Hijacker Autoslide fifth wheel trailer hitches with the underbed mount..

Great functional hitch. Poor powdercoating though (mostly flaking off) with quite a bit of rust after only a year.

Hitch sucks pain in the assembly to connect and disconnect.

by: Devin05/09/2020

Hitch looks great and functions great as well. Installation could’ve been smoother due to the installation instruction measurements being slightly off. Look at finding hole caps that are 3” instead of two and drilling the larger hole.

Hitch works great. Had some issues using it when I first got it with putting the pin to lock down the handle but its worked much better lately. The hitch is heavy so I leave it in the back of the truck. Wish I could remove it so it doesn't get weathered.

by: Duane C07/24/2017

Not so much the product, I'm sure it's great. But part number 60050 is apparently to similar the the part I received, part 6050. Paid extra for faster shipping on the original order. Because wrong parts were sent, we are returning it all. We had to locally source an entirely different hitch because we needed to install on a new truck that day. By locally sourcing, I mean drive 2 1/2 hours one way to get an above bed hitch and mounting system. Now I have a bunch of holes drilled in the bed of my truck that I didn't want and the customer service was horrible.

by: John 06/13/2024

After a year, I still like my Demco autoslide. It works great. I have pulled my trailer quite a few times and have had no issues at all. I know quite a few people that pull 5th wheels and one actually went out and purchased a autoslide after watching mine work.

by: Michael06/20/2020

This rail system is certainly robust and I’m not concerned about it carrying the load of the fifth wheel at all. It is a quality product and seems to be made well. I installed this myself and it should be a relatively easy install; however, it was a huge pain. The rails install under the bed of my 2020 F-250 shortbed at the exact location where the truck frame has a bend in it. For this reason, the locking pins from the auto slide hitch above the bed couldn’t reach the under bed rail receiver holes (there was too much space since the frame rails slid down the bend in the frame). I couldn’t have installed this system by myself. With the help of a buddy, we were able to adjust the above bed hitch locking pins while one person was under the truck holding up the frame rails so they were snug with the bottom of the bed. This allowed the pins to properly drop into the frame rail receiver holes and lock the rails up against the bottom of the bed. In hindsight I could have held the rails in position by attaching them to the frame brackets first but that’s not how the instructions were laid out. This was my first fifth wheel hitch install so I guess I learned something to make my next install easier.

by: EY06/01/2019

Have this installed in my 18 F350 SRW and it works ok. Sometimes the latches bind when removing the hitch because it shifts slightly when towing.

Installation was a pain. I had to remove all of the bolts holding the bed on, then raise the bed about 3" to get the rails in. Also, the rails sit directly up against the bottom of the bed so there's no way to install the hole covers when you have the hitch removed.

by: John 06/13/2024

My truck did not come with the puck system and I use my truck to haul stuff other than my 5th wheel. The underbed rails work great because my 5th wheel hitch drops right in and leaves the bed empty when I take it out. I dont have to worry about lifting things around in bed rails and it looks clean when the bed is empty.

by: Ken 02/03/2020

Easy in stall, Had my bed liner sprayed in and was afraid of scraping it taking out the hitch. Have had no problems so far even though I do it on my own. Its heavy but light enough for me to move to the back of the bed and take out with a floor hoist.

by: Adam07/15/2025

Kit was easy to install once the bed was loosened up and is holding up very well. The reason I did not give 5 stars were the included star bolt adapters were a softer steel and would skip and pop out. Ended up getting a separate hardened steel socket to complete the job.

by: Sheryl 02/20/2021

Good kit. All the parts were sturdy and well made. Took my truck in to a local installer and he completed the installation in about 1/2 of a day. You should be aware that the installation involves unbolting the truck bed from the frame and that makes DIY a major undertaking. Unless you have the tools, equipment and skills you should plan on using a professional installer. With this kit I can remove my hitch and the truck bed is open and uncluttered for every day use. Only evidence of the hitch are the four flush plastic caps on the bed.

Great hitch for a short bed truck thanks etrailer

by: Brian05/28/2020

Instructions left alittle to interpretation when it came to hitch height in the bed of the truck. For a f350 super duty it is the medium set up. Save you some time and effort. Other then that it looks great and will be testing it out this weekend.

by: Richard H. 05/13/2016

This hitch has been used daily since i purchased it. I deliver fifth wheel travel trailers all over the country. This hitch has worked flawlessly from day one. This hitch is one of the only products that I've ever bought that is exactly what it was described to be. Im not one to do reviews, so the fact that im doing this one , in itself, says a lot about the quality of your product. The design and looks are much better than any other hitch ive seen. It just looks better in the truck bed than others do.

  • How to Tell if 2018 Ford F-250 Has Puck System to use Demco Hijacker Autoslide
While the best and most certain way to tell if your 2018 Ford F-250 has the puck system is to call your local Ford dealer with your VIN, it should be pretty easy to tell otherwise. If your bed looks like the accompanying photo - with four accessible holes (pucks) and a gooseneck in the middle - you have the puck system. You can also tell based on how your B&W Companion mounts. If you insert it into the pucks you have the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with Slider for Ford Towing...

There are below the bed 5th wheel installation kits for the 2017 Ford F-250; just not any Reese kits. The reason for that is Reese makes the factory under bed install kit for Ford so they tend not to release an aftermarket kit right away (or at all in some cases) which gives Ford exclusivity to it. If you do not already have a Reese Elite Series hitch then you can go with one of the other under bed kits and a hitch for it. I would need to know the bed length of your truck and if it is...

  • Differences Between Above and Under Bed Fifth Wheel Hitch Mounts for 2020 Ford F350
There are two ways to install a fifth wheel hitch on a pick up truck. One would be to use standard bed-mounted rails. Brackets are mounted to the truck frame with the bed rails sitting directly above. Holes are drilled down through the truck bed to correspond with holes in the brackets bolted to the frame, allowing the bed rails to be securely bolted down. The rails have slots in them that allow the hitch to be installed and removed pretty conveniently. The problem here is that once the...

From you description, you're wanting an easy to use hitch that provides a good level of ride quality that won't transfer all the road shock from the 5th wheel to the tow vehicle. I'd recommend the Demco Hijacker Autoslide, which is available in an 18K capacity model as part # DM8550022 or a 21K model as part # DM8550037. These hitches are compatible with the Demco # DM8551009 under-bed rail system that will leave your bed completely unobstructed once the hitch is removed. The hitch...

  • Below Bed Base Rails for 2002 Ford F-250 and Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch
You can absolutely use the 18,000 lb Demco Hijacker Autoslide with the underbed rails on your 2002 Ford F-250 crew cab. What you need are the following: - Underbed Rail and Installation Kit for Demco Hijacker # DM8551000 - Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with Slider - 18,000 lbs # DM8550022 As you mentioned, this is also compatible with the 21,000 lb version of the Hijacker # DM8550037. Additionally, if your '02 F-250 has the factory 7-way but you need a 5th wheel wiring...

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch and Tonneau Cover Recommendation for 2017 Ram 3500 with Short Bed
For your 2017 Ram 3500 6-1/2 Foot Bed without Factory Rail Kit you'll need a slider hitch to allow you to make tight turns without cab interference. My favorite slider hitches are the ones that automatically slide as you make tight turns as that saves you the hassle of getting out and activating the slider every time it's needed. For that I would recommend the Demco Hijacker part # DM8550037 and the install rail kit part # DM8551006. This is an underbed rail kit too which means when you...

  • Under Bed 5th Wheel Installation Kit and Hitch for a 2017 Ford F-250 4x4 with 6-1/2 Foot Bed

  • What is the Best Automatic Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch for a 2024 Ford F-250
Hey Earl, thanks for reaching out! There are two main competitors for the top spot of automatic 5th wheel hitches; the Demco Hijacker and the PullRite SuperGlide. While we only carry the Hijacker, I've looked into the SuperGlide enough that I can point out the main differences and why the Hijacker edges past the SuperGlide. Both options feature 14" of sliding clearance and can be installed in either OEM puck systems or industry standard rails (ISR), but there are the main differences...

  • Can the Demco Hijacker 5th Wheel Hitch Be Used W/ a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 W/ OEM Pucks
Hey Nick, so it looks like the only way you're going to be able to use your Demco Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider # DM8550037 with your 2014 Chevy Silverado is by using the custom underbed mounting kit # DM8551010. This is one of the few hitches that does not use ISR or an OEM puck system to install so you'd have to use their install kit.

  • Under Bed 5th Wheel Rail Kit and AutoSlider Hitch Compatible with 2019 Ford F-350 Without OEM Pucks
The Under-Bed Rail and Installation Kit for Reese Elite Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches #30068 was discontinued and is only compatible with commercial 34 inch frames, so it won't fit your 2019 Ford F-350. I reached out to Reese and they don't currently have a model compatible with the 2017-2019 model trucks. I do have an option for you that gives you the under bed rails and the automatic slider you are seeking, but you won't have the pucks like the factory option. I attached a photo...

  • Choosing Between the Demco Autoslide and B&W Companion for 2020 Ford F-250 without OEM Prep Package
I can understand why a hitch like the Demco Hijacker Autoslide # DM8550022 (18k) or # DM8550037 (21k) is so attractive; they provide a much better solution for towing a 5th wheel with a short bed truck when it comes to not having to get in and out of the truck each time you need to make a tight turn. With that said, they're not compatible with B&W Turnoverball Underbed kits like the # BWGNRK1116-5W since the hitches connect to the underbed kit in two very different ways. In order to use...

  • Using A Lippert Turning Point Pin Box With A Demco Autoslide 5th Wheel Hitch
The reason the Demco Capture Plates # DM6171 aren't working with your Lippert Turning Point pin box is because they were specifically designed for Trailair Rota-Flex pin boxes. Since you have a Demco Autoslide # DM8550037 you'll need to lockout your Turning Point pin box and allow rotation only at the hitch to king pin connection point. To do this you'll need to install two 5/8" - 11 x 2" in the lockout holes in the back of the pin box.

  • Should I Choose Demco, Reese, or PullRite Underbed Rail System for My 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500
For your application I recommend installing the Demco UMS Underbed Rail Kit # DR37FR on your 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500 and using the Hijacker Autoslide # DM8550037. The reason behind this is twofold; the Hijacker has more height adjustability and it comes with capture plates (as opposed to sold separately), and then Reese doesn't have an underbed rail system for your truck so you'll have to use the matching underbed rails for the 5th wheel hitch. Since the Demco Hijacker is better than...

I recommend using the Demco Hijacker Autoslide # DM8550034 on your 2019 Chevy 2500 without the OEM prep package since the slider automatically activates, so there's no getting out of the vehicle required each time you may need to make a tight turn. I also really like that this gives you an under-bed mounting kit with the # DM8551010 so you'll still have a completely clear truck bed when you're not towing your 5th wheel. • Best 5th Wheel Towing Setup for a 2007 GMC Sierra 2500HD

The general rule of thumb is that if you're towing a 5th wheel trailer with a truck that has a bed shorter than 8' then you will need a sliding hitch to gain clearance between the trailer and the cab of your vehicle while turning to prevent them from contacting one another,...
