Features to know about

Built for Confident, Heavy-Duty Towing: 20,000 lbs GTW and 5,000 lbs Vertical Load

The Curt A20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch is built from sturdy steel and rated for 20,000 lbs gross towing weight with a 5,000 lbs tongue weight. It’s made to handle large fifth-wheel trailers with stability and strength while keeping everything locked-in tight. The durable carbide powder coat finish helps protect against wear over the long haul so it stays reliable trip after trip.

Quiet, Stable Ride with a Fully Articulating Torsion Head

A fully articulating torsion head gives you smooth, stable towing even when the road gets rough. It lets the hitch pivot naturally to control coupling and suppress road shock, cutting down on the clanking and jerking that can wear you out on long drives. The result is a quieter, more relaxed ride whether you’re cruising straight or pulling through uneven ground.

Locked In and Ready at a Glance: Color-Coded 3-Point Indicator System

Before you tow, a quick look at Curt’s color-coded indicator tells you exactly what’s happening—red means uncoupled, yellow means ready to couple, and green means it’s locked and ready for the road. You can see the indicator right from the cab or beside the truck bed, so there’s no guessing or second-guessing your connection.

Secure Jaw Design That Wraps the King Pin

The interlocking two-piece jaw design provides 360-degree contact around the king pin. That tight wrap cuts down on movement and rattle compared to slide-bar setups and gives you a more secure feel when you ease forward or brake. It’s one of those details that makes every hookup feel solid from the first mile out.

Close-up of Curt A20 fifth-wheel hitch dual interlocking jaws securely wrapping around trailer king pin for stable towing.

Easy Removal When You Need Your Bed Clear

When it’s time to open up your bed space, a fast 1-pin head removal makes it simple for one person to take off the hitch without special tools. The included plastic lube plate also keeps hookups smooth so you can attach or remove without fighting friction. Height adjusts from 13" to 17", giving some flexibility for a level setup while staying quick to handle when stored away.

Video Transcript for Ultimate Overview of the Curt A20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch

Today we're going to take a look at the Curt A20 dual-jaw fifth wheel trailer hitch with a 20,000 pound weight capacity. Now, this fifth wheel hitch will mount in your truck bed so that you can tow your fifth wheel trailer. It uses the interlocking two-jaw system right here, which provides a nice 360-degree jaw-to-kingpin contact, and because of that it'll give you less rattle, more security than your slide bar models. Also, on the front of each jaw, over here and over here, you can notice there's two built-in grease zerk fittings, which will give you easy lubrication of the jaws. This hitch does use a fully articulating torsion head for controlled coupling and a nice stable, quiet ride. It will self-align for easy hookup, and helps suppress road shock to reduce any bothersome towing noise. The handle right here is a lockable handle.

It's a very short-throw single-handle operation. The nice thing about it, also, it does self-reset to the ready-to-couple position after uncoupling. Now, when you put this together, when you mount the crossmember to the legs, there's three rows of holes on the crossmember, so it actually will give you a four inch hitch height adjustment. The hitch height would be measured from your truck bed to the top of the hitch head, and you want that to be as close as possible, so when you're towing your fifth wheel with your tow vehicle, you want those level. It gives you three choices, anywhere from thirteen inches of hitch height adjustment up to seventeen inches. One of the nice features on this is the three-point indicator system. It'll tell you what position the jaws are in.

What's nice about it is that it's color-coded. Let me just swing this around so you can be able to see. If you notice, right under the hitch head, right here, you'll notice right now it's showing solid green. That means the jaws are completely closed. If we had a kingpin in there, the green would mean you're ready to tow.

This color coding will tell you if the hitch is ready to uncouple, couple, or tow. What's nice about those colors and looking, if you're in the cab, the cab would be right here, you can turn around as you're hooking up or uncoupling and watch the color, and when it changes, it tells you the position of the jaws. Basically, the green, like it is now, the jaws are locked closed; it's safe to tow. If it goes to yellow, let me just unhook this and pull out the handle. You can see right now, because I opened the jaws, it's showing yellow. Yellow means the jaws are ready to couple.

It's safe to back in the truck to couple up to your fifth wheel. It if would show red there, that means the jaws are locked open, and it's safe to pull your truck away. When it's red, you do not want to couple. Also, this has a nice fast one-pin head removal, makes it very easy for one person to remove the hitch. Back here, there's a clip you can pull out, and then you can pull this large pin out, and that'll allow you to take the head out of the crossmember so you can take it apart in pieces, which makes it easy for one person to remove the hitch. Also included with this . Let me roll this around here. There we go. Included with this, I have laid out, comes with the plastic loop plate right here. This plastic loop plate will go onto your kingpin and lets the kingpin glide smoothly into the hitch during hookup. Also comes with, you can see, the pins and clips for attaching the legs to your base rails. This is a simple installation with base rails and an installation kit. Now, the base rails and the installation kit we do sell separately on our website. I would recommend to go to our website, use our fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle, and it'll show you the correct base rails and installation kit for your application. This fifth wheel hitch is compatible with B and W, Curt, Demco, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Husky, Reese, and Valley above-bed base rails. This is a sturdy steel construction with a durable carbide powder-coat finish. Again, the specs on this. The gross towing weight capacity is 20,000 pounds. The vertical load limit or pin weight capacity is 5,000 pounds. We had mentioned the hitch height adjustment from thirteen inches to seventeen inches. What I'm going to do now is, we already have the jaws open, ready to couple, showing yellow, so what I want to do is here's an example. This is what a kingpin would look like on your fifth wheel. When you go to hook up, your kingpin would slide in between the two jaws, just like this, and once you get it far enough, your jaws will completely wrap around the kingpin. You notice the handle automatically slides up. The holes line up, so you just take your pin and clip, drop your pin into the hole, clip it, and that'll lock the handle. Now, the hole is large enough, you could actually put a padlock on there if you wanted extra security. It does come with this attached pin and clip. With the handle locked, you look back here at the color, it's showing green. That means you're all ready to tow. Again, to uncouple, you just pull your pin out, open it back out, and go, be able to back right out. That should do it for the review on the Curt A20 dual-jaw fifth wheel trailer hitch with the 20,000 pound weight capacity.

Overall a great hitch. Couple of minor scratches. Like the easy disassembly to be able to install/remove from truck alone.

by: William05/06/2024

Love it. Easy to take apart and move! The instructions were very clear on how to assemble. I pull a 43ft camper and have yet to have any problems! Well worth the $$

by: Jeffery04/24/2026

Works fine

by: William04/25/2026

Easy to install with Basic tools .

by: Larry07/29/2025

Works well with my new hitch, Installation was not the easiest in the corner on the driver side closest to the cab due to the truck fuel tank.

by: Stephen10/08/2025

Worked really well. Especially like the one piece mounting bracket. Secure and easy installation.

by: Leroy10/18/2020

I ordered this to install in my 2020 Silverado 2500. The install was easy and took close to 2 hours. Have not pulled my fifth wheel yet so really no idea how this will hold up. Everything was in the box nothing missing. Shipping took 2 days to get to my house. Very happy so far with everything I have ordered fro you.

by: Alejandro05/21/2022

Very nice piece!Arrived sooner than expected. I have the A16 version, that I used for a 10k Lbs 5th wheel and that handle very well but now I'll be towing a 16k tow hauler so I know this a20 will do just fine. And I love the locking jaw versions. I feel these are most secured in any type of towing.

by: Shawn06/09/2022

I installed myself on my 21 GMC Sierra 2500HD, Denali, Duramax. Took me around 3hrs to do with basic shop tools. Over all the unit itself is very nice. Heavy well treated metal, bolts are all good quality. Not one single alignment issue. Sucks that the truck manufacturers can’t make some sort of pre setup locations as it was some tight finger tip spots. But that’s not to the fault of This item at all.

by: Robert11/13/2021

Excellent hitch, took two of us 10 minutes, during a rain storm lol, to put together and install! As far as towing our Redwood 5th wheel it performed flawlessly, easy to hook up and the ride was super smooth and no noticeable bucking!

by: Jerry07/19/2026

Fit perfect. Easy install if you’re han dy.

by: Vince07/08/2026

Put it in my self went great towed camper home today!

by: Nicholas07/17/2026

Easy to install and it works great.

by: Ben03/02/2020

Installed these bed rails on my 2020 Silverado Duramax 2500HD. Heavy duty rails and of good quality. Install time was around 3 hours. Definitely remove spare tire and heat shield. I did find it very difficult to torque 2 of the nuts on the driver's side front rail. Everything else no problem. I did spray some undercoating on the frame rail ends and nuts. Just did that for extra protection and it will make it easier to see if there is any movement when towing.

by: James B.07/28/2017

I already had a curt goose neck frame mounted in truck so I used the Curt adopter plate # 16220 an the A 20 curt 5 wheel hitch assembly was very easy with no issues looking forward to putting it to work with my G M C 3500 also purchased a curt bumper dual ball adjustable hitch

by: Rick10/02/2025

I purchased this rail kit for a camper we bought. It’s fits perfectly with the hitch that came with the camper. I also bought the spider gooseneck adapter which works great with these rails!

by: Dave B09/19/2017

Hitch slid into existing rails after a very minor adjustment. Took my son and I about 25 minutes to assemble, torgue bolts and adjust rails in the bed of my truck. we have used it twice already and camper did not bang and pop like it did on old worn out receiver.
The ordering process was also very smooth. Kelsey took the time to explain the differences in the hitches before I made my decision!
I Would recommend both etrailer and this hitch if you are looking to change out!

by: Donald09/05/2020

Hitch came packed well even though the box looked banged up. Everything was still undamaged and in good usable condition, just minor scuffs. I think this unit will have more when I get done with it. Watched a you tube video from curt on installation and had little trouble installing the hitch following the enclosed guidelines. Everything lined up according to plan. I think the hardest part was getting access by the heat shield. Tough spot to work on but I had help from a younger, more adapt helper who was able to manage just fine. A creeper for underneath was super handy and a 6 foot ladder to climb in and out of the bed made it a whole lot easier. Really did not need to use a lift. Would have made it a bit harder to work in the bed. My truck is quite high which allowed nice working space underneath.

by: Brad05/05/2026

5 stars for the quality of the parts. Directions get you through but could be better. Video of installation makes it look way easier than it is. Took me 2 afternoons to complete the process.

by: Brandon03/18/2026

This kit fit well and the installation instructions were very clear and easy to follow.

by: Daniel03/05/2026

From start to finish the experience was very enjoyable. The customer service team was amazing and everything happened just as promised.
The same hitch at my local trailer store cost much more.
Would definitely recommend etrailer to anyone.

I have towed with the Curt A20 for a few thousand miles. I really like this hitch. The visual hooked versus unkooked indicator is awesome. It operates flawlessly. I do get some chucking over bridge expansion joints. However, it seems like most people have this problem. On normal roads it pulls great.

Curt A20 still performing flawlessly.

by: Steven10/07/2021

Installed on a 2021 GMC Denali DRW. The installation instructions and video need to be updated they are somewhat miss leading as to the difficulties of install. The driver side front rail nuts are almost Impossible to install because of gas tank. They will be impossible to torque without dropping the gas tank. Your will also have to remove the dual rear wheels to torque the frame plates Took almost 5 hours to install. Other than that have yet to use hitch.

by: Sid07/30/2025

Product itself is really nice, well engineered and extremely stable in the truck bed. It's not as scratch resistant as I had hoped, I moved an electric oven and it really scraped the rails.
It does hold the hitch in place perfectly while towing, the holes and pin placement slots are spot on exactly like they should be. Mates really well with my Curt Fifth Wheel Hitch. Overall, satisfied with my hitch rails.

The only drawback is the installation.... OMGH! Was going okay until we got to the bolt that's on top of the fuel tank, could barely reach it and only get one millimeter turn at a time, then the torque wrench got stuck....
Just an ass-kicker!

But perseverance pays off and we got it installed and torqued to proper settings. Hope I never have to do that again.

by:

Very easy to use! It was a job to install though by myself!
If you don’t have plenty of of time wait until you do!
I had to drill holes in my brand new truck bed so I measured and measured over and over lol! Note: if when your unhooking trailer from it and the jaws do not open it’s no problem. When you try to pull away they will open right up no issues ! Don’t really know why they sometimes do not open when I disengage the handle do not open themselves! Great product though no other issues with it!

Yes, you can absolutely add the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs # F2613 to your 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500 that has a 5th wheel hitch in the bed. The reason you can do so is that the air bags install to the bottom of your truck's frame so the air bags will not interfere with a base rail kit like the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit for Chevy/GMC Truck # C16429-204 that fits your 2020 Silverado 2500. You didn't mention if your 2022 Chevy Silverado 3500 had the OEM puck system, or if you already have bed rails installed, or if it was a short bed or long bed, so I'll list out every potential option: - Short Bed WITHOUT OEM Puck System: Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit # C16429-204 & Curt A25 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ S25 Slider...

  • Is The B&W Patriot A Good Option For A 2023 GMC Sierra 2500 Towing An Alliance 32RLS
The B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider # BWRVK3270 would be a great option for your 2023 GMC Sierra 2500. If you don't already have base rails then you'll want the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit # C16429-204. As for height you'll need to measure the height of the king pin plate on your Rota-Flex pin box while the trailer is level and then measure the height of your Sierra's bed to determine what height the # BWRVK3270 needs to be set at to keep the trailer level and...

  • Availability of Aftermarket Puck System for 2023 GMC Sierra 2500
At this time, the Curt # C16429-204 above bed rails are the only confirmed fit for the 2023 GMC Sierra 2500. This would allow you to use a 5th wheel hitch like the # C55DR if you have a short bed or # C16140 for a long bed. For an underbed system, it may be possible to use the B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # BWGNRK1020. However, B&W only has reports of some customers and dealers successfully installing the hitch so we cannot guarantee it will fit. This would allow...

We do have no-drill 5th wheel brackets which are a fit for your 2021 Chevy Silverado 2500. The correct fit for your truck is the following: - Curt Custom 5th Wheel Bracket Kit for Chevy/GMC Truck # C16429 This bracket kit will install onto your Chevy without any drilling, though they do require you use the Curt above-bed base rails (all 5th wheel brackets need to use the same manufacturer's base rails in order to fit). • What is the Distance Between the Rails on Industry Standard 5th Wheel Installation Kits
Industry standard 5th wheel rails like the Curt # C16429-204 will be spaced 22 inches apart, center on center. These rails are not adjustable and I'm not aware of any base rails that are; if you've got a hitch that doesn't mount to industry standard rails then you may need a custom application for that hitch.

It's really going to depend on what the setup is in your new GMC Sierra 2500. If you have base rails, like part # C16429-204, then your Companion # BWRVK3500 would not be able to adapt to fit the base rails and you would instead need a hitch like the B&W Patriot # BWRVK3255 or # BWRVK3270 if you have a short bed. • Solution for Curt Q20 Fifth Wheel Hitch with Loud Clunking from Jaws
Since the jaws of your Q20 can't be adjusted or replaced your best solution is going to be a new hitch like with the Curt A20 part # C16140 which is the newer version of what you have now which has a much tighter jaw design that will be quieter and last longer. Instead of the two jaw pieces coming together and just touching each other in the middle the A20 jaw has two pieces that lock together.

  • Recommended 5TH Wheel Hitch For a 2022 Ram 2500 With Ram Box Bed
With your 2022 Ram 2500 having the Ram Box storage in the bed you will need to use a fixed hitch with a pivoting pin box like the Sidewinder # RP34FR. You will not be able to use use the Pull Rite/Demco Autoslide type hitches as they will not clear the bed sides. This prevents the chance of damage to your bed rails and allows you to make full jackknife turns without...

I spoke with my contact at Curt who said that the A20 5th Wheel Hitch # C16140 is compatible with the Trailair Rota-Flex 5th Wheel Pin Box without any additional components. He did say that they have heard of instances where the rubber pad on the Rota-Flex pops out of place which results in it prematurely wearing down the head unit of the A20 but since that problem is with the pin box you would have this same issue with any 5th wheel hitch. If you are replacing your pin box and this makes...

  • Why Can't the Curt Rota-Flex Pin Boxes Be Used with the Curt Q-Series 5th Wheel Hitches
Hey Derek, thanks for reaching out! The Curt Rota-Flex pin boxes, like part # LC176440 you referenced, aren't compatible with the Curt Q-Series hitches because the pin box hitch plate moves and the Q-Series hitches use a spherical axial bearing which provides a smooth ride quality for standard pin boxes, but will work against the movement of the Rota-Flex pin boxes. Instead of the Q-Series I recommend using the A-Sers # C16140 which is pretty similar, but it has a torsion head so it will...

The first and easiest is the Adapter Rails # C88KR which you found. This will mount into your 4 outer factory puck holes and gives you the same mounting points your Curt hitch fits into. Does the 19K figure you stated for the weight of the toy hauler represent its GVWR or is that it's dry or weight? The dry weight would typically be quite a bit lower. • Why Would Curt A20 Fifth Wheel Hitch Chuck with Travel Trailer
Hey Matt, that's frustrating to hear but my first question is what type of wedge are you using for the pin box and the A20? If it's a universal wedge that would be what I'd think the issue is. The custom fit wedge you'd need is the part # C16992. That should tighten up chucking quite a bit. Let me know what you have now for a wedge and we can go from there. Also if you see where the movement is that is causing the noise let me know.

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch for a 17,000 Lb Trailer
For a 17,000 lb trailer for which I am assuming is dry weight, I would error on the side of caution and use a 5th wheel hitch rated for at least 20,000 lbs. For a 20,000 lb 5th wheel hitch, I recommend the Curt Q20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # C16541 for long beds or part # C16140 for short beds. • Recommended 5th-Wheel Hitch that is Easily Removed on 2014 Ram 1500
Choosing the right 5th-Wheel Trailer Hitch for your 2014 Ram 1500 will depend first on the weight of the trailer you plan on towing. You will want to make sure the truck and hitch have weight capacities that exceed the trailer's loaded weight. Since your Ram 1500 has a short 5-1/2 foot bed, the safest way to tow a trailer is to use a stationary 5th-wheel hitch and replace the pin box on the trailer with a Sidewinder, if it does not have one already. The Sidewinder will be required to add...

  • Is it Normal for Curt A20 Fifth Wheel Hitch to Make Noise Starting/Stopping
Hey Doug, what you are describing is pretty normal and is referred to as "chucking". Some hitches have a little looser tolerances in the jaw design that can cause this and/or some trailer king pins are a little worn out which allows for more play as well. The A20 doesn't have a reputation for being noisy so I wouldn't suspect it being the problem but there isn't any type of adjustment on it's jaws.

The Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit is a custom bolt-on fit with no cutting or drilling required into the frame. If you don't already have a fifth wheel hitch, the Curt A20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # C16140 is my recommendation because of the interlocking dual jaw system which has a tight grip on the king pin and works to reduce chucking and jarring.
