Recommended Ball Mount for U-Haul 5x8 Cargo Trailer
Products Featured in This Question
Question:
GM! Making a full cross-country trip towing a lightly loaded UHaul 5x8 single axle enclosed trailer. Towing vehicle is a 2023 Honda Ridgeline with factory hitch and 7-wire plug. I want the trailer tongue to be level when hitched. UHaul indicates I can use either a 1 7/8inch or 2inch ball. I would appreciate your suggestions as to ball mount , ball size, any wiring adapters that may be needed, etc. I appreciate your help. Know youre busy. Please rwspond when convenient. And, yes. I am a previous customer. Thanks!

The U-Haul 5x8 Cargo Trailer has a suggested coupler height of 18". Therefore, you'll want to take this measurement and subtract this from the distance from the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver on the vehicle. The difference between these measurements will be the rise/drop you need to look for in a ball mount. I recommend adjustable since you can use it on multiple trailers, the Flint Hill Goods Adj Tri-Ball Mount part # FHG92VR is a good option which can be adjusted to a 5-3/4" rise or drop. It also has all standard hitch ball sizes so you never need to worry about what size is on the trailer.
Please note, if the vehicle only has a 7-way plug you'll need an adapter like the Pollak 7 Pole to 4 Way Connector Adapter part # PK12716.
