Powering Fans in a Horse Trailer Without Leaving Trailer Connected to the Truck
Question:
I want to use the 7 pin connector from the horse trailer, unplug it from my truck, when parked and somehow hook it up to an additional lone battery, so I can run my fans in the horse trailer. I have seen it done in another trailer, but was unable to get the info.. Any ideas?

To power the fans on your horse trailer when the trailer is disconnected from your truck, you will need to add a battery to the trailer. I recommend using a battery box and mounting the battery on the frame of the trailer so you can easily ground the battery to the frame.
Once you have the battery installed, you will want to run the wire for the 12 volt circuit on the trailer side connector to the positive battery terminal. Next, connect the power wires from the fans to the battery. I recommend running the power wires from the fans through a switch so the fans are not constantly running and draining the trailer battery.
One thing to keep in mind is that the battery from your truck will not fully charge the trailer battery when the trailer is hooked to the truck, but it will maintain the charge on the battery. Before each trip, you should ensure that the trailer battery has a full charge using a battery charger like the CTEK MULTI US 7200 Battery Charger, # CTEK56353.
