Wiring to Flat Tow a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Behind an RV
Products Featured in This Question
Question:
I recently purchase a 7 Blade to 4 Round to connect my RV to the Jeep from eTrailer. Ive yet to start installing the wiring harness from the front of the Jeep to the tail lights. I guess Im looking for an easy way to do this, thus my question is. Can I use the 4 way flat installed at the hitch for towing trailers by merely plugging a 4 way flat into it and then run the wiring to the front of the Jeep? Then connect to the RV using the device I purchased from you. This would eliminate pulling the tail light assembly, cutting wires, etc. If this would work will the diodes still be required? Thanks for you time and consideration.

A wiring harness that is used to power lights on a trailer cannot be used in reverse to power the lights on the vehicle when it is being flat towed. This is unless it is a specially made harness designed for this purpose. There are numerous wiring kits available for the 2012 Jeep Wrangler, see link.
The easiest to install that does not require cutting and splicing wires is the Hopkins wiring kit, # HM56200. It will just plug in line with the vehicle tail lights and it has a 4-Way to connect to the cable you have which in turn goes to the RV.
A more economical solution is to use a magnetic light kit like # RM-2120. The magnetic base of the lights sticks to a flat metal surface on the vehicle and then just plugs into a 4-Way from the RV.
