The 5 means that the wheel is 5 inches wide from bead to bead (not overall width). The J indicates the design of the wheel bead seat but it is nothing you need to be concerned with as this is the most common shape for all trailer tires. To measure the bolt pattern accurately I have included a link to an FAQ article that will explain the process.

There is a good chance that you have a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern but you will need to measure to be sure. You will also want to make sure that you match the existing tire construction of the other tires on the trailer; either bias or radial, and you will want to make sure to match the load range on the existing tires.

If you do have a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern and a load range C bias tire, then a match would be # MX94F.

My enclosed trailer has a tandem axle and came with st205-75R15 load range C tires. Rims are 15x5J. Is there a problem if I change the tires to a load range D? I just feel more comfortable with a D range because I do a fair amount of traveling.

There's no problem at all with this. You can definitely bump up to a Load Range D tire like the Provider # TR20515D to, if nothing else, provide a larger safety margin with regards to capacity for better peace of mind. This particular tire also has a really high max speed rating of 81 mph.

I'm looking to upsize the tires and rims for my trailer. The size of the current tires and rims match the original question. But is there a standard offset with the 15x5J wheels?

The industry standard for 15" trailer wheels is zero actually. Sometimes you can find one with an offset but trailer tires perform differently than passenger car tires so the vast majority of trailer wheels will have that zero offset no matter the size. Attached is a link to our selection of 15" wheels for you to check out.

@MikeM You can definitely replace your 205/75-15 tires with 225/75-15 as they are only about 1/2" larger when it comes to both diameter and width. The only real benefit you might see in this situation is an instead in weight capacity but that all depends on what the load range is for both tire sizes, and it's important to remember that your weight limit won't exceed your least rated component so you may not be able to take advantage of the full weight capabilities of the larger tires.
