How Far do Trailer Springs Typically Compress
Published 03/22/2019
Question:
I have a tandem axle trailer that Im installing new axles on. 7000lb axles. It is a deck over trailer. I had the axles mounted under the springs on the old axles to gain clearance from for the tires to the deck. On part number e64SR. How much will these springs compress and how much clearance is needed from the top of the tire to the deck. 235/80/16. Thanks in advance

Helpful Expert Reply:
Typical spring deflection for trailer leaf springs like the part # e64SR is right at 1-1/2 inches when at capacity. Generally speaking you will want to have 3 inches from the top of your tire to a fender on a trailer (in your case a deck) to accommodate for suspension travel.
