Tongue Weight Capacity of a 2017 Jeep Cherokee
Question:
Gentlemen, I have just purchases a motorcycle carrier for my 2017 Jeep Cherokee Latitude, and now I need an aftermarket hitch. Several of my friends have recommended the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2. This model has a 750lb TW. My question is, With a 500lb bike, and a 98lb carrier, should I be looking for a hitch with a bigger TW capacity, considering the occasional bump in the road putting stress on the hitch?inch Any and all guidance would be greatly appreciated.

The only way you can transport a motorcycle with your 2017 Jeep Cherokee is if you placed it on a trailer and towed it behind your vehicle. The problem at hand is that your vehicle is not rated for the tongue weight capacity you need to use the motorcycle carrier and motorcycle. Though a trailer hitch like the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13172 which is a fit for your Cherokee has a 750 lb tongue weight capacity, the vehicle is lower and will need to be the figure you abide by.
The tongue weight capacity of your 2017 Jeep Cherokee is as follows:
2.4L w/ or w/o Trailer Tow Package - 200 lbs
3.2L w/o Trailer Tow Package - 200 lbs
3.2L w/ Trailer Tow Package - 450 lbs
The weight of the motorcycle and motorcycle carrier would almost certainly damage the vehicle and void any warranty to cover the repairs. Therefore, I recommend using a trailer like the Detail K2 Mighty Multi A-Frame Utility Trailer part # K2MMT5X7.
