I did some research on your 2015 Ford Edge and it looks like as long as you have a V6 engine in your AWD Edge you can flat tow it without any speed or distance restrictions. Ford does recommend starting the car and letting it idle for at least 5 minutes for every 6 hours of flat towing though. You will need to consult the owners manual for full procedures.
For a base plate kit you will need the part # RM-524444-5.
In addition to the base plates, you will also need a compatible tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking to flat tow your vehicle. The most popular compatible tow bar is the Falcon 2, # RM-520. For safety cables you can use # RM-643. The coiled design helps keep the cables off of the ground.
For lighting you can use the diode kit # RM-152 and not have to cut into the taillight assemblies. You will also want the # BX88206 to connect this lighting solution to your tow vehicle. This comes with a round 6-way connector that you will install on the front of your towed vehicle and enough coiled wire to go from there to the RV.
Dinghy wiring the 2015 Ford Edge SEL model is quite a bit different than normal diode wiring because Ford combined the stop, turn and taillight signal on the same wire that goes to the rear facing LEDs in the taillight.
To make the # RM-152 kit diodes work properly you will need 2 resistors rated for 50 ohms and 10 watts for LED tail lights or 2 rated for 5 ohms and 10 watts for incandescent tail lights, available from a local electronics supply store. You will also need to wire the diodes differently to get the LED taillights to work properly. I have attached a diagram showing how to wire in the resistors and the diodes.
We did a flat tow setup on a 2015 Ford Edge SEL here and found that the correct wire to splice into was the darker brown wire which is most likely the same wire you used that only illuminated the side marker lights in the rear taillight housing. Using this new diagram you will get the rear taillights to work properly.
And finally, most states now require supplemental braking in the vehicle being flat towed. The easiest system to set up and use is the Blue Ox Patriot # BRK2016, that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.
Most likely you will also need a high low adapter so that the tow bar will be level when you are flat towing. I attached a link to a page that has all of the ones we carry.
I have included a couple of helpful links to our articles on flat towing for you. Be sure to consult the vehicle owners manual for more specific information on flat towing your vehicle.
