Which is Better for a Short Bed Truck, A Slider Hitch or a Fixed Hitch and Sidewinder
Published 09/24/2014 >
Question:
Putting the additional cost aside for a minute, which setup is better for a 6.5foot bed? 1 slider hitch or 2 regular hitch with a sidewinder I am looking at the Reese sliders and the standard Reese M5 20k hitches and possibly a sidewinder. Which setup performs the best overall? Thanks

Hands down a stationary hitch with a Sidewinder is a better setup than using a slider hitch with a regular pin box. You will be a better ride quality without having to deal with the hassle of operating the slider hitch every time you get in a parking lot.
Slider hitches have a lot more moving parts so they tend to "chuck" more than a stationary hitch, plus they are much heavier.
Sidewinders will make the trailer track better behind your truck around corners as well as make backing up much easier due to the pivot point being moved back.
The Curt Hitch part # C16530-16017 that Mike recommended for you actually isn't compatible with Sidewinders due to it's large jaw design. Instead I would recommend the Reese M5 20k Hitch part # RP30921. For your Ford truck with the hitch prep package. You'll also need the custom wedge kit # RP44FR to prevent the king pin of the sidewinder from pivoting in the jaws of this M5 hitch.
I attached an FAQ article on Sidewinders for you to check out as well.
