Question:
Is it possible to attach a roof top cargo basket directly to the front to back siderails? I have a 2007 Impreza 5-door with side rails but no cross bars. Im thinking about a basket like the Yakima basketcase or similar. Thank you.

I may have a solution for you, but most roof mount cargo baskets, including the Yakima LoadWarrior, # Y07070, use crossbars as the attachment point on a vehicle roof.
The only roof baskets that we carry that do not require crossbars are the Surco Safari Rack 5.0 rooftop cargo baskets like part # SPS4550-1101. These baskets come with integrated crossbars and the feet clamp around raised roof side rails. The basket I referenced measures 50 inches long x 45 inches wide. You will want to measure the distance between your side rails to determine if the basket is wide enough to reach both side rails.
If you need a wider basket, you can go with part # SPS5060-1101. This basket is 60 inches long x 50 inches wide. Both cargo baskets include the mounting feet and have a weight capacity that was designed to match the weight capacity of the vehicle's roof. I recommend checking your owners manual or with your local dealer to verify the roof weight capacity of your vehicle.
If you would rather add a roof rack and use a different cargo basket, an economical roof rack option is the Malone SteelTop, # MPG201. With this roof rack installed, you can attach any cargo basket that you like including the Yakima BasketCase. The Malone roof rack and the BasketCase would save you some money over the Surco Safari cargo baskets.
I have attached links to all of our roof mount cargo baskets and all of the roof rack options for your Impreza.
