Will a Winch Interfere With a Blue Ox Base Plate on a Jeep Wrangler?
Updated 09/09/2026 | Published 08/27/2026 >
Question:
We are searching for a 2019-2025 Jeep Wrangler to tow behind our 2023 Odyssey Entegra 24B. A good number of the Jeeps we see for sale have the winch system installed on the front bumper. Does this setup hinder, complicate, or prevent installation of the Blue Ox Tow System and accompanying Base Plate setup? Thanks,

Hey Mark, thanks for reaching out. Yes, you can absolutely flat tow a 2019-2025 Jeep Wrangler with a winch, but the type of bumper and winch mounting setup matters. For a Wrangler with the factory plastic or factory steel bumper, the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX1139 is the setup I recommend. Blue Ox specifically lists this base plate for 2018-2026 Wrangler JL models with all factory bumpers, including the factory winch system.
So, if you find a Wrangler with the factory steel bumper and factory-style winch setup, the winch is not a deal breaker at all. The Blue Ox base plate mounts down at the frame and provides removable attachment points for the tow bar. Blue Ox even includes the factory winch system in its official BX1139 fitment.
Where I get more cautious is with an aftermarket winch bumper. Some aftermarket bumpers use the same frame mounting locations as a conventional base plate, so compatibility varies by bumper. If you are shopping specifically for a Wrangler to flat tow, I recommend looking for one with the factory bumper or factory steel/winch bumper setup. That keeps the Blue Ox installation straightforward and takes a lot of the guesswork out of the equation.
Is the winch a must-have? Do you need the rest of the parts for your flat tow setup? I'm happy to throw together a parts list for you if you need.
