What Bearings, Races, Seal, and Bearing Grease do I Need for My Cargo Trailer with 2 Axles?

Updated 08/27/2026 | Published 08/19/2026

Question:

I have a double axle cargo trailer. I found that it has Dexter axles, lot number: 153304157. I was wondering if you could help me find the correct bearings and inner and outer grease seals that I need for the trailer. Thanks for the help!

Hello Timothy,

Welcome to etrailer, I'm glad you found us!

I wasn't able to cross-reference the number from your axle, but we can get you figured out just fine without it.

Typically, a tandem axle setup on a cargo trailer comes with (2) 3,500-lb axles. You can confirm this by checking the axle tag. In that case, you will want to order (4) Hub Bearing Kits for Lippert, Dexter, and AL-KO Axles - 3,500 lb # BK2-100, one for each hub. If you check the axle tag and they are not rated for 3,500 lbs, please let me know what they are rated for so I can get you the correct kit.

You will also want to grab some LubriMatic Prime Guard High Temperature Wheel Bearing Grease - Red - 16-oz Can # L11380 if you do not already have some bearing grease on hand.

Personally, I like to pack the bearings the old-school way with a golf-ball-sized amount of grease in my hand, with a glove of course, and slowly work the bearing into the grease until you see it coming through the other side. However, some of our neighbors prefer to use the Bearing Packer - Plastic # PTW1218.

What do you mainly haul around in your cargo trailer?

I just removed the old bearings that have model numbers on them to be sure I was ordering the correct set.

Mine were on a boat trailer. I removed old ones first to make sure of fit. Worked out great. Fast delivery. Dirty job But fairly easy. I used marine grade grease. I did not replace race because my main problem was bad sill.

@William Thanks for the response William. It is nice that now a days they are using the same size spindles on most of the 3,500 pound axles. There are still some spindles out there using a different bearing set-up than the # BK2-100, so checking your bearing numbers is always the safest way to get it right the first time.
