Recommended Spare Tire Carrier for a Deck Over Trailer

Updated 08/23/2026 | Published 08/16/2026

Question:

I have a 14k deckover trailer with 9 I-beam frame. The only spot to mount a spare carrier is on the side of the front I-beam. Is there a mount that would fit?

Hey Mark. I don't have a spare tire mount that's going to fit a 9" I-Beam but I've got a couple of other options I wanted to share with you.

If your trailer has stake pockets one of these spare tire mounts would be what I recommend using. The Buyers Products Stake Pocket Spare Tire Mount item # 3375201012 fits stake pockets that are the standard 3-1/2" and 3-3/4" size. The Brophy item # SPTC is designed for 2" x 4" stake pockets. Both of these tire carriers fit all wheel sizes and lug nut patterns.

If you have angle iron on the front of your trailer where the deck and tongue meet, you can use the etrailer Spare Tire Mount for Trailer with Angle-Iron Railing item # e99045. This mount will clamp directly to the angle iron and works with 12" to 15" wheels and all lug nut patterns.

The Demco Spare Tire Mount item # DM15851-76 can be used if your deck over trailer has a solid square or rectangular piece of steel that sticks up between the tongue and the front of the deck. It just requires a steel bar measuring no bigger than 4" tall x 3-1/2" wide. It fits all size tires and lug nut patterns.

What specific make and model deck over trailer do you have and what do you haul with it? Feel free to answer this and throw in any other questions you have, where it says Add Comment.

The tire mount works out great for my trailer. I can also chain and lock my mowers to it.

Replaying to Mark I had this on a flimsy Carson trailer that could haul two ATVs. The only place to mount this was on the top angle rail. There was movement on the angle from the tire. It sounds like you have a better built trailer with with a thicker metal, so you should be OK. One issue for me was the tire stuck out further from the wheelbase. In my area way too many drivers ignore the double yellow line. Bill
