Question:

Furrion Chill Cube, does the blower stay on full time? Can you configure the system to blow only when compressor runs?

Hey Van!

The blower on the Furrion Variable Speed Chill Cube RV AC w/ Heat Pump & Air Distribution Box # FR67TQ does stay on full-time, even when the compressor is not running. The variable speed fan is what is controlled by the "auto" setting, unlike some older units where the fan shuts off when the compressor is stopped. If you'd like to turn the blower off on the Chill Cube, you'd need to install a disconnect switch to kill all power to the fan, but that would require also turning it back on when you want the fan to operate. The point of the blower running is for the air to run over the thermostat for the thermostat to have an accurate reading, so I don't think there is a unit that doesn't have an always-on blower available. Is that something that you can work around or do you absolutely need a blower that turns off?

How about a relay to power the fan only when cooling is required from the thermostat?

@Van A relay isn’t something we’d recommend on the Chill Cube. The blower is electronically controlled by the A/C control board and is intentionally designed to run continuously while the system is operating. There isn’t a conventional fan-power lead we can simply switch with a thermostat relay. Modifying the blower circuit could interfere with the unit’s operation, so we’d recommend choosing a different A/C system if having the blower shut off between cooling cycles is a requirement. That type of operation does exist. Some of the 12V DC air conditioners we carry, such as the Velit # VE89QV, can be configured so the evaporator fan only operates when the compressor is running. Unfortunately, those units are much lower capacity than the 18,000-BTU Chill Cube. The Chill Cube itself isn’t designed with that same fan-control option, and we don't recommend modifying its blower circuit with a relay.
