Replacement Onan Generator for a Older Onan MicroLite 4000

I have a 1996 Fleetwood Tioga class C motorhome we’ve completely redone. It has an Onan MicroLite 4000 on it that was working but now needs a part my husband says they don’t make anymore. Can we just buy this Cummins Onan QG 4000i DF Dual Fuel RV Generator - 4 kW, 120 Volt, EFI and it’ll plug and play? Or what parts do I need to make it work with my motorhome?

Hey Beth! The Onan Generator - QG 4000i DF Onboard RV Generator - 4,000 Watts item # CM66GR is indeed designed to replace your Onan MicroLite 4000. However, it's not going to be as simple as a plug and play swap out. You will be able to reuse your existing mounting base, and 12v power cables.
You will not need a new Onan remote panel, however if your connectors are different you will need to splice the new generators wiring into the older remote harness. The functions for the harnesses are the same but some models had a different connector.
You are going to need to reroute your exhaust because it is mounted on the opposite side on the Onan Generator - QG 4000i DF item # CM66GR. The air intake is on the right side of the generator as well so if your compartment door vent is on the opposite side to accommodate the MicroLite 4000 you will need to make some modifications to the compartment doors.
I do recommend replacing the fuel lines supplying the generator while you're swapping them out.
