Hello, I am setting up my 2020 Jayco Melbourne Prestige 24LP RV for flat towing. I have already most of the components. Towing a lite wt 2022 chevy spark 5 spd manual car. I have the Blue ox base plate and Im using the NSA Ready Brute Elite II Tow Bar. I have a receiver height issue my center of the RV Receiver is 13 1/4 to the ground. My Spark is approx 14.5 to 15.5 to the ground from the center of the clevis pins, have not measured it yet as my car is on the jack stands and will be till I get this all done. The Roadmaster high low adapter RM83SR has a solid shank which I like but heres another issue I am encountering, these printer class C rv have no spare tire, I have a spare but need a way to mount it outside the RV or tow vehicle. I bought the Road Master spare tire carrier for the 2 receiver and that weighs a hefty bit approx 67 lbs plus 150 lbs of tire and wheel. I was planning on using the spare tire carrier on the upper receiver tube and the NSA tow bar at the straight passthru tube. But I was ready the stacking leverage for doing this is too much and not to be done. This throws my plans back to no spare tire again. Can I even as a plan B use the upper tube for a 1 up dual rail super duty bike rack with a combined weight of 200 lbs if the spare tire is a definite no go. Let me know what my possible safe options are that will stay within any weight margins so if something does happen I will be within the correct weight spec and Insureance wont tell me to go pound sand. the spark weighs 2,300 lbs. Hey William, welcome back! If you have a Roadmaster Spare carrier like the part # RM-195225 you can use the lower hitch opening of it to flat tow a vehicle like you are planning on doing. Only thing you can do would be to add a high low adapter into this setup. So you can insert your tow bar into the hitch of the Roadmaster spare carrier and you'd be fine. How tall is your RV's hitch opening from the top of it down to the ground? I think it's definitely possible you wouldn't need a high low adapter.
Your plan B of just a high low adapter like the part # RM83SR and a bike rack would work just fine.

Yes the bike rack option will work using the RM83SR In riser position. Even though the total weight of the bike rack plus the two heavy E-Bikes weigh 200lbs in total. The only way to use the RM 195225 Tire carrier is if you have a lot of distance from the receiver of the RV to the ground that hopefully in some cases works out to be level for the tow bar arms when hooked up to the toad. Not for us Sprinter chassis Class C RV's. My receiver height is 13 1/4" from center of the RV hitch to the ground. The RM195225 Tire Carrier has the drop style Receiver approx. 2" from the center but actually its closer to 3" of drop, I measured it on my RV. That was with the Threaded pin bolt or stinger bolt used without an additional anti rattle clamp to tighten it up as I would do as well. So my Tire carrier lower receiver sits too low to be useable to flat tow at 10 1/4" inch off the ground. and it would have to be raised upward to match the tow bar clevis height of the towed vehicles base plate pins. Now we are in the wonderful world of stacking issues and losing 1/3rd of the RV's towing Capacity but really the tongue weight that plays into our situation more than tow capacity. I've ran all the numbers of putting the Riser adapter solid shank style with 10k tow capacity and 400 lbs of tong wt capacity. The RV receiver is only a class 3 Rating so its tongue max wt. is 500 lbs. This Tire Carrier can only be safely used if your RV Receiver height is approximately 17-18 inches from the ground so no risers are used if you plan on flat towing and use this tire carrier. I need to clarify this a bit if you are towing a vehicle that has different height numbers than my vehicle then you need to take that into consideration here. I confirmed this with Roadmaster Tech Support. I'm only bringing this up for someone thinking of using this same setup on their RV. It physically can be done but not safe or within the designed intent, if for some crazy reason it broke and fell off and hit a car and well you get the message its not going to be good in a court that you did not do your calculations in the setup and you will be held liable for whatever damages that occurred. I really wanted this to work for me but after a lot of number crunching its not doable in my situation and style of RV I and many others have.
