Roof Rack and Canoe Carrier Recommendation for 91 lb Old Town Discovery for 2010 Honda Pilot

Updated 08/04/2026 | Published 07/30/2026

Question:

I ordered a TH34FR52JX. I am planning on using it with a 91 lb Old Town Discovery 169 Canoe on my 2010 Honda Pilot. I am planning to buy: Thule Portage Canoe Carrier w/ Tie-Downs - Gunwale Brackets - Side Loading Part Number: TH819 Rhino-Rack T-Load Hitch Mounted Load Assist and Support Bar for 2 Hitches - 49 Long Part Number: RTL002 I am planning to add an anti-wobble hitch bracket. Is this a good setup other than the old car? What else will I need? Are there better alternatives? My wife is concerned more with ease of use than cost, as she says we will use it more if its not a pain to get set up.

Hey Patrick, the setup you mentioned would work really well for you! The Thule Wingbar Evo roof rack part number # TH34FR52JX is a confirmed fit for the raised rails of your 2010 Honda Pilot roof and will work great with the Thule Portage rack # TH819.

The Rhino Rack T-Load part # RTL002 will also do a great job supporting some of the weight of the canoe as well.

Now if this was my setup I would probably first try just the Thule roof rack and the Portage and see how it goes. Your 91 lb canoe is within the capacity of the carrier and the roof rack. If you feel like you need additional support then you could add the T-Load after the fact.
