Wheels and Tires for a 1997 Kwik Kamp Trailer

Question:
Hello! I recently bought a 1997 Kwik Kamp trailer. I am interested in new hubs and tires w/wheels. Current wheels are 5.7 x 8 with 4 lugs. Not sure what to buy for replacements. Trailer less than 500, but Im interested in highway speeds and durability. Can you offer suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Hi Pamela! Congratulations on the Kwik Kamp! I'd be happy to help you get it ready for the road. Based on the 5.70-8 tire size and 4 lug wheels you mentioned, I recommend the Kenda 5.70-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8 Inch White Wheel, Part # AM30153. It has the highest load capacity and speed rating (65 mph) available in that size, making it a great choice for dependable highway travel. Each tire is rated for up to 1,075 pounds at 100 psi, and the wheel is rated for 910 pounds. I know 65 mph doesn't seem fast but it's highest speed rating available for bias trailer tires used on older campers.
If your goal is better highway reliability after a blowout or to help eliminate any wobble, it's also worth checking the condition of your hubs and bearings. If they're worn, replacing them at the same time as the wheels and tires can make a big difference in how the trailer tows.

FYI, I purchased the Kenda 5.70-8 Bias Trailer Tire for a home made registered trailer and have hauled beyond the limit of the wheels (which are the weakest component) and they run well. I have pulled many things high speed on the freeway at 70 MPH and I have had no problems. Honestly for the 4 on 4 axle, it is the best option. And they are good looking!

Hi Heather! Unfortunately, there are no marks on my bearings anywhere. The hub is stamped with ez, there is a zerk fitting, and sort of d shaped retainer for castle nut. I believe the spindle is 1 1/16" front to back. Does this help find new hub assemblies? I think the ez grease would work if you concur? The whole trailer is less than 500 lbs., not sure of the axle rating. This is a motorcycle trailer but I'll be pulling with a car. Might be mistaken as to the spindle size . ID of bearing, washer, and castle nut is 1". Thanks

Hello, I’ve bought this combo several times over the years for my pop up trailer which weighed 800 lbs. They worked great, never any problems on long trips and at higher speeds, 65+ mph.
