I have a curt 1.25 inch hitch on my 2024 Subaru Outback. Can it be converted to a class III 2 inch hitch to carry a 2 e bike rack? Or do I have to replace the car trailer hitch? Thank you

Hey Joan, this is a great question but I have a couple ways we can help. My favorite solution and what I would do if I were you would be to go with a Class I hitch compatible e-bike rack like the Thule Easy Fold XT part # TH903202. This is the simplest solution that also gives you the best e-bike rack around so you can't go wrong and it also fits the hitch you have already so it gets you on the road quickly.
Now if you have an e-bike rack already that is designed for a 2 inch hitch you instead would need to replace the hitch you have with a Class III like the Curt part # C13410. This is a mostly hidden Class III hitch that will work great for you. It's not a great idea to try and use a hitch adapter with a Class I hitch as they cut the capacity of the hitch in half due to extra length/leverage and movement. What kind of e-bikes do you have and do you already have an e-bike rack?

The ramp is fine for putting on the first bike, but then you have to tip the second bike down to be able to get past the pedals. Also, I didn’t care for the way the bikes attach to the upright bar. We ended up selling the rack and getting a Saris rack that has an electronic lift capability so we could just roll the bikes onto the rack.

We have pretty much only used the Thule Easy Fold rack behind our 2014 Honda CRV flat-towed behind out motorhome. I just read a review stating it was not "rated" for that. I don't understand why. We don't bother with the "ramps". The Easy Fold has served us well. After several years of extensive use, we have one small chip in the black under plastic which does not effect the use. I would choose the Easy Fold again.
