Hi Larry,

Thanks for your question. The CURT RVibrake 4 Portable Flat Tow Brake System - Wireless Monitor - Proportional # RVI44FR does not charge your towed vehicle's battery. In fact, like most portable supplemental braking systems, it can deplete the toad's battery while you're flat towing.

To help keep the battery maintained, I'd recommend the CURT RVibrake Towed Battery Charger+ for Flat Towing # RVI74FR. This system uses power from your motorhome to keep your towed vehicle's battery charged while towing. As an added bonus, it also reports your toad's battery status directly to the Bullseye Monitor included with the # RVI44FR. The # RVI74FR does require a constant 12-volt power supply from the motorhome. This is typically provided through the umbilical cable that connects the motorhome's 7-way connector to the 6-way connector on the front of the towed vehicle.

Many motorhomes already provide 12-volt auxiliary power at the rear 7-way connector. You can verify this by checking the 1 o'clock pin on the motorhome's 7-way with a multimeter. If that pin doesn't have 12 volts, you'll also need the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Motorhomes # RM-156-75 to supply charging power.

Out of curiosity, are you replacing an existing flat towing setup, or are you putting together a completely new system?

It does not charge the battery and WILL drain the battery. I've also had nothing but issues with mine. I would try a different brand.
