Recommended 7-Way and Brake Controller for a 2023 Ford F-150 XLT w/a Factory 4-Way Only

I have a 2023 Ford F-150 XLT that has a four pin harness that I need to convert to a 7 pin. I also want to install a brake controller. In my truck I have the factory brake controller option that sits behind the coin holder (in this 2023). It looks like it was set up for that but not a tow package. There is so much information online, I am hoping you could help me figure out what's my best route? I appreciate your help.

Hey Greg thanks for all the information! To add a 7-Way connector and brake controller to your 2023 Ford F-150 XLT, I recommend the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller item # ETBC7, the No-Drill Bracket item # C57202, and the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty w/ Custom Harness item # RED67CR.
It sounds like your 4-way connector came installed from the factory since you found the brake controller cable. There's not a custom fit 7-Way that will plug into the same connector your 4-way does on your 2023 Ford F-150 XLT. You will be reusing your 4-Way connector when you install the Universal Installation Kit item # ETBC7 so it's good you already have it.
The Universal Installation Kit item # ETBC7 includes a 7-way and 4-way trailer connector that mounts at the rear of your F-150 with an included bracket. The item # C57202 can be used to attach this bracket to the crosstube of your new etrailer hitch item # e63TR, without having to drill.
I attached a diagram below that shows how to wire up the Universal Installation Kit item # ETBC7. You'll need to plug it into your 4-way to get the lighting functions for your trailer. You will then connect the blue wire to the blue wire on the brake controller plug, connect the black wire to the positive post on your F-150's battery, the white wire to a suitable ground nearby, and the yellow wire to the reverse circuit. This will provide you with the ability to control your trailer's lights, brakes, and also provide you with a 12v power wire for you trailer's battery. This kit includes all the wiring, connectors, and circuit breakers you'll need.
The Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller w/ Custom Harness item # RED67CR is a proportional brake controller that automatically adjusts your trailer's braking based on the deceleration of your F-150. The Liberty has a unique installation method where the main unit is concealed behind your dash and the only part visible is the control knob. The included custom fit harness will plug directly into the factory plug you found behind your coin holder.
