How to Connect 2019 Mazda CX-9 to 7-Blade Connector

Question:
I have a 2019 Mazda CX nine which is pre-wired so the appropriate wiring was apparently a plug-in play for way flat. I have a Vintage camper 1958 that has a seven way round plug so I bought an adapter and the lights still don’t work. There is already a grounding wire on the camper near the plug. Is there something more I need to do? A separate part of the question is is it possible to get a harness for my Mazda? That’s already a seven blade to plug into the camper. If I do this with it then charge the battery while I’m driving because from what I understand the four way will not?? Thank you, Jeannie

Hi Jeannie!
You'll want to start by testing the connections on your vehicle and your trailer. The best option is to use a multimeter if you have one, or you can use a circuit tester like Hook Probe Circuit Tester # PTW2993. You should test this on each individual connection on the vehicle side as well as the trailer side to identify where you're losing your power.
If the issue is on the trailer's end, you can replace an individual wire or go with a new 7-way connector like Mighty Cord 7-Way RV Style Trailer Connector w/ Molded Cable - Trailer End - 8' Long # A10-7W10.
If the issue is on your vehicle's side, you can start with a new wiring harness to make your setup work. For your 2019 Mazda CX-9, we have a plug-and-play option that will make installing a new harness easy and get the lights on your trailer working. Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56338 is designed specifically for your vehicle and plugs in to the connectors behind your paneling in your rear access area.
To connect the 2019 Mazda CX-9 to the trailer's 7-blade plug, you'll also need Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires # ETBC7. This will plug into the Curt 4-way plug and give you connections for a brake controller in the vehicle, 12V power to charge accessories on your trailer, and reverse lights on the trailer. The kit isn't quite plug-and-play, since you'll need to run wiring to those three connectors, but it is a pretty straight forward installation. I've linked our installation instructions for that kit below.
I really like the sound of a 1958 Vintage Camper. Is this a restoration project that you found or is it one that's been in your family for a while?
