Replacing Older Coleman Mach AC In 2016 Forest River Salem Travel Trailer That Has Ceiling Vents

Published 06/18/2026

Question:

I’m replacing the original Coleman-Mach AC on my 2016 Forest River Salem 26DBUD. It has ceiling vents and a wall thermostat now. Would one of the new Advent Air ducted kits be the right style, or should I be looking at the non-ducted version?

Good morning Mark! Since your 2016 Forest River Salem 26DBUD already has ceiling ducts and a wall thermostat, I’d look at one of the ducted Advent Air kits, like the Advent Air RV Air Conditioner System - 13,500 Btu - Ducted - Black # ADV59QR, or the 15,500 Btu ducted kit # ADV69QR if you want the higher-capacity option.

Those ducted kits come with the rooftop AC, matching interior components, and the Advent Air smart wall thermostat that works with smartphones, so you’re replacing the system as a matched setup instead of trying to reuse older controls with a new rooftop unit. Since your Coleman-Mach system is older, and these new Advent Air kits use R32 refrigerant, this is a good time to swap the full AC system together rather than only replacing the rooftop unit and trying to make older parts work with it. The new parts are not backwards compatible so this is the correct path.

Are you replacing a 13,500 BTU unit, or are you thinking about stepping up to the 15,500 BTU version while you’re doing the swap?
