Can I Connect my RoadMaster Crossbar style Baseplate to a Blue Ox Tow Bar?

Updated 06/30/2026 | Published 06/16/2026

Question:

I bought a 2004 jeep liberty that already has the Roadmaster base plate and wiring connector installed. I need the drawbars and blue ox adaptors so I can tow it with my RV. It must be an older style. It is square and not the round that you twist in and use the spring lock to secure it. The only base plate I can find that is the same is Roadmaster 1420-1 Tow Bar Crossbar-Style Base Plate. Let me know if you have this or can get it. Thanks Greg

Thanks for reaching out Greg, happy to help!

Based on the fitment for the 2004 Jeep Liberty, it appears your vehicle likely has a Roadmaster crossbar style base plate installed. When you mention the "square" attachment points, I believe you're referring to the crossbar style mounting tabs rather than the newer direct connect style.

To connect a Blue Ox tow bar to a Roadmaster crossbar style base plate, you'll need the Roadmaster Tow Bar Adapter for Blue Ox Tow Bars # RO64FR.

The Blue Ox Alpha 2 Non-Binding Tow Bar # BLU78QV is a great option. It is rated for 6,500 lbs and is compatible with the # RO64FR adapters, allowing it to work with a Roadmaster crossbar-style base plate setup.

You'll also need the Roadmaster Quick Disconnect Crossbar Assembly # 910021-00 if it did not come with the vehicle. This is the crossbar that connects between the base plate drawbars and the tow bar.

Any trips planned for when you get everything setup?

Hi James, I will also need the part that locks into the mount on my Liberty that the quick disconnect crossbar attaches to. Do you know those part numbers. I'm going camping this weekend and a week in August. I'm also hoping to do some weekend trips this summer. Greg

@GregS Sound like you're needing Roadmaster Replacement Arms for Base Plate Kits #RM-ARMS. You'll need the RoadMaster base plate part number # RM-521423-4. That will identify which arms are needed for your baseplate. Sounds good, let's get you setup so you can enjoy the summer!
