Can I Put The Victron Orion Charger Between My 7-Pin Connector And Battery Bank?

I have a 2020 Winnebago Micro Minnie Fifth Wheel, I pull it with a 2023 Silverado 2500hd Duramax. I am going to upgrade to 2 lithium batteries. Can I put this charger in line between my trailer 7 pin connector and the battery bank? It’s going to need a converter change out as well. Existing converter WFCO Power Converter with distribution Panel Model WF-8955PEC My intention is to replace 2 group 27 or 31 batteries to lithium, and be able to charge both from the truck and shore power. Can you help me piece it together? Ideally I want to spend no more than $1k. Thanks in advance Gary

Hey Gary, thanks for reaching out. Yes, that's actually one of the most common uses for the Victron Orion-Tr Smart Isolated DC-DC Charger # VN56RR when upgrading an RV to lithium batteries. The Orion would be installed inside the trailer, as close to the batteries as practical. It takes the variable voltage coming through the 7-way charge line and converts it into a proper lithium charging profile. This also prevents the lithium batteries from trying to pull excessive current through the factory charge circuit.
You are right about replacing the converter/power center too. You'll need one that is Lithium compatible. We have one that will replace your WFCO WF-8955PEC. Here is what I recommend:
- WFCO Auto Detect RV Converter and AC/DC Distribution Panel - 12V - 55 Amp # WF86FR
Then if you are needing new batteries, I recommend the following:
- Go Power Lithium RV Battery - Deep Cycle - LiFePO4 - Group 31 - 12V - 100 Amp Hour # 34282738

Thanks Jesse M, Honestly, this is our first RV. I think starting with two, and trying it out for a year. I may need to add more batteries? I will be placing an order soon. I really appreciate your insight. I’m going to start there. Thanks again Gary
