Question:
I have a 16’ Airstream Bambi with a 13.5K ac heat pump. I’m looking to replace it and considering the variable speed inverter units. The variable speed Furrion at 18K is a little large. Do you have any reports of short cycling in a smaller camper? Also the roof of the Bambi is abt 1.5 or 2 inches thick. Can the Furrion be installed with this roof thickness? Also. Is there an installer wall mounted thermostat that goes with the unit in a ductless configuration and will control my Dometic propane furnace? Finally. Airstreams have a condensate drain lines plastic tube Does this unit have a condensate drain? Thanks

Hey John, thanks for all of the information and welcome back! The only issues we've had with the Chill Cubes like item # FR77TQ short cycling is when the cold air is blowing directly on the thermostat. This won't be an issue with the item # FR77TQ because the thermostat's built into the air distribution box away from the oscillating vent. The inverter-style compressor does a really good job at preventing short cycling.
The Furrion Chill Cube item # FR77TQ requires a roof thickness of 3-1/2" - 6" according to the Furrion installation instructions. Extra bracing and trimming the foam divider are both methods you can use to install it on a thinner roof.
The Furrion Chill Cube item # FR77TQ doesn't have a thermostat at all let alone one that will work with a furnace. Your best option is to install a furnace only thermostat like the item # DMC84RR which you'd wire up to your furnace completely independent of the Chill Cube.
If you look at the picture I attached below you'll see the highlighted areas. Those are all the drain holes at the base of the Furrion Chill Cube item # FR77TQ. These systems are not designed to be connected to a drain tube. When the water exits the base it'll drain off the roof of your Air Stream.
What size breaker is your Dometic connected to on your fuse panel? To upgrade to a 18,000 btu system, you will need to have a dedicated 20 amp breaker.

I had my Furrion installed for me. This ac is very different. It uses the condensation to spray on the coils to increase the efficiency. Then the excess moisture is dumped. If you search for Morrons on the Move, YouTube channel, he does the best review of this ac, better than anyone else period. It is well worth your time. As for my experience. We just completed a trip from post Falls ID to La Grande OR (300 miles). It was 93 degrees. I set the ac to 75 degrees and left it on as we traveled. The ac kept the inside of the rv cool The entire trip. I monitored the power consumption the entire trip. The maximum power consumption was 550 watts. I was totally impressed. I Have a 60 amp dc-dc charger and 2100 watts of solar and 11kw of battery. The solar and batteries were never used! Totally impressed. It is extremely quiet. My only complaint is that the air doesn’t get far behind the unit, it primarily pushes air down and in front (I have the non ducted version).

John, I just installed the Furrion 18k BTU Chill Cube on my ATC car hauler. The ceiling thickness on mine is only 2”. Furrion and eTrailer were help with this issue. However, I was able to fabricate a 1 1/2” adaptor that I secured to the ceiling on the inside to make my ceiling 3 1/2”. This worked great. The a/c unit is SUPER quiet. Haven’t used it much yet as we just finished the install about a week ago.
