Thanks for writing in!
To replace your current brake assemblies with the Electric Trailer Brake Assembly for Lippert ABS Hubs - 10" - Left/Right Hand - 3,500 lbs # LC73PX, I would first confirm that your existing brakes are ABS-equipped and have the wheel speed sensor.
For the installation, you'll need to splice the brake magnet wires into your trailer's brake wiring. I recommend using the Wire Cutters with In-Handle Crimper and Bolt Cutter - 8" Long # PT43ZR along with the Deka Heat Shrink Butt Connector - 12-10 Gauge - Nylon Insulation - Yellow - Qty 10 # DW05745-10.
The brake magnet wires on the back of the new assemblies are 16 gauge, while the brake wiring on most trailers is 10 gauge. When making the connection, I like to fold the end of the 16-gauge wire over on itself before crimping. This gives the wire a little more thickness and helps create a more secure connection inside the butt connector.
After crimping, use the Heat Gun - 572 to 932 Degrees - Dual Fan Speed - 12 Amp - 1,500 Watts # PT47VR to shrink the connector. This creates a weather-resistant, sealed connection that helps protect against moisture and corrosion.
