Question:

Dear trailer, I recently just purchased a 2024 Ram 1500 Classic. It didn’t come with a towing set up but did come with the wiring ports already installed in the bumper. I’m just a little confused onto which products would fit. I see some frame mounted ones and other receivers. Can anyone help me please? Thank you, Justin

I completely understand the confusion, and I can help clear things up. There are two different ways you can add a hitch to your 2024 Ram 1500 Classic. You can either mount a hitch directly to the frame or mount one to the bumper support.

The Curt hitch # C15572 is the frame-mounted option. It offers significantly more towing capacity than the etrailer hitch # e98852, which bolts directly to the bumper support. The Curt hitch is rated for up to 15,000 lbs, while the etrailer hitch is rated for up to 6,000 lbs.

If you think you may need the extra capacity now or in the future, I would definitely go with the Curt # C15572. If your towing needs are lighter and you don't need that much capacity, then the etrailer hitch # e98852 would be a great choice.

I would recommend the one that hooks to the frame if you plan on hauling anything heavy . Gives way better protection. And very easy to install I had mine install in under an hour . And looks pretty good as well .

I have the heavier duty frame mounted option on my 2020 classic. Love the fact it is frame mounted. It’s stout and can handle more weight than you would ever want to tow with a 1500. If you want something stout and peace of mind while towing this is the option for you. Install was very easy too. 3 years of ownership on this set up.

I have had both on 2 diffirent Trucks. I would get the frame mounted one. My other one that used the hitch hole leaned down or back when I carried bikes or hitch rack

@Carl That's the first I've heard about the hitch leading forward or backwards. This will be helpful to know especially for anyone who may want to use it mainly for carrying bikes, especially if the bikes are on the heavier side.

I actually got the frame mounted one and installed it by myself, it’s very very solid and the best hitch I’ve ever used, my 2019 ram 1500 classic didn’t come with this hitch and it’s twice as strong as the cheaper bumper mounted one, etrailer was the fastest best ever for dealing with, I’ve used etrailer before and will again in the future, my hitch looks like it can tow anything and my hemi is happy, it’s very heavy for one person and I used two old plastic milk crates to hold it up

@GeorgeQ Using milk crates is a new one. Usually I hear people mentioning that they used a jack to help install the hitch. I'm going to add milk crates to my list.
