Best Trailer Hitch For Carrying E-Bikes On A 2022 Grand Design Imagine 2500RL

Updated 06/11/2026 | Published 06/01/2026

Question:

Hello I have a grand design 2500rl a 2022 model and I want to add a frame mounted hitch to the rear of the rv to transport 2 e-bikes weighing less than 100 lbs each. Which hitch do you recommend? I’ve looked at faq and it says Curt 1703 would be appropriate, is that still the recommended hitch?

Hello Dennis, thanks for reaching out. Yes, the Curt Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver for RVs # 13703 is definitely the best bet for adding a 2" hitch to your 2022 Grand Design 2500RL. It'll work with virtually any frame width, and the side flanges have a bit of built-in drop to help the receiver clear the body of the camper. It comes with hardware for a bolt-on install, but it can also be welded on if you prefer that. The hitch itself has a 350 lb tongue weight capacity which is more than enough for a bike rack and a few e-bikes.

What kind of bikes do you have? Do you already have a bike rack you plan to use?

Jesse, thanks for the information. I’ve completed the installation of the hitch yesterday and it took a while there were some adjustments to be made. Had to remove both stabilizers at the rear of the rv ( which I’ll weld additional mounting brackets just forward of the original location and we had to cut 1” off the tube to jet the tube into the mounting brackets. Build quality is great, couldn’t ask for a more sturdy product. In regard to bike carrier it’s difficult to locate a travel trailer rated hitch to carry e-bikes. Etrailer didn’t have one but referred me to swagman. I received the hitch yesterday we’ll see if I still have room at the back bumper for the bike carrier and my spare tire at the rear. If I have to remove the spare tire so be it. Have a great day.

@DennisR Hey Dennis, thanks for sharing! Glad to hear you got the hitch installed. Sounds like it didn't give you too much trouble. Sounds like you have some solid experience with this kind of thing so I'm sure that helped. As far as travel trailer rated e-bike racks, we do have one rack that you might be interested in. Take a look at this: - Lets Go Aero V-Lectric VFR Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes - 2" Hitches - Wheel Mount # LGA25VR This can hold two bikes weighing up to 80 lbs apiece and it is rated for use on the back of a travel trailer. It comes with a loading ramp too which is great for those heavier bikes. Let me know what you think!
