Recommended Gen-Y Gooseneck Pin Box for a 1621 Bolt Pattern

Updated 05/31/2026 | Published 05/26/2026

Question:

I have a 2021 Cougar 25 RES. The GVWR is 10000 lbs. The specs say that the hitch weight is 1505 lbs. The calculated pin weight using your chart is 2200 lbs. Why the difference and will this hitch work with my unit?

Hey Roger, welcome back! The Gen-Y Hitch item # GY38FR is rated for pin weights up to 4,500 lbs. It'll still work with anything below that and not be stiff or over the top for a lower pin weight once it gets broken in. This is Gen-Y's lowest capacity option for all of their pin boxes.

The Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box item # GY38FR is most likely the correct one for your 2021 Keystone RV Cougar 25RES. It looks like the Road Armor shock-absorbing pin box that fits a 1621 bolt pattern came standard on that model.

I'd be more than happy to confirm that information for you if you could email me directly a picture of the sticker above your pin box on the mounting bracket or carefully put all the information on it where it says Add Comment.

You will also need the Safety Chain with 2 Hooks for Gen-Y 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box item # GY49GR. Safety chains are required for gooseneck connections and they are not included with the pin boxes. These will attach to that cross looking cutout by the Gen-Y logo.

Are you looking to free up space in your truck bed? What has you wanting to convert over to a gooseneck pin box?

You can add this information, along with any other questions you have, where it says Add Comment.

Hi Roger, I love my Gen Y, it performs well, and my box is empty when I am not pulling. I am sure that Jarred is more up to date on this than I am, but in my case there is definitely a minimum weight load as well as a max. I found the customer support folks at Gen Y to be invaluable in getting all my questions answered and making sure I had the correct hitch. If in doubt give them a call.
