Can You Mount Steel Trailer Jacks on an Aluminum Trailer Without Corrosion?

Updated 05/09/2026 | Published 05/07/2026

Question:

Can these be used on an aluminum trailer? Is there any concern about galvanic corrosion, and if they can be used on an aluminum trailer do you recommend steps that can be taken to protect against galvanic corrosion ie stainless bolts, nylon washers…? The trailer in question would be stored outdoors in rain, snow, humid conditions, and subjected to road salt.

Hi Josh, yes, these jacks part # e94RV can absolutely be used on an aluminum trailer, but you’re right to be thinking about galvanic corrosion, especially with the kind of outdoor exposure you’re describing. Anytime you’re bolting steel components to aluminum and adding moisture, humidity, and road salt into the mix, there is a real potential for corrosion over time if nothing is done to separate those metals.

The good news is it’s very manageable with a few simple steps. Using stainless hardware is a solid upgrade, and adding nylon washers or another non-conductive barrier between the jack’s mounting plate and the aluminum frame helps keep the metals from directly contacting each other. Applying a marine grade anti-corrosion compound or dielectric grease between those surfaces also goes a long way in protecting everything. In your environment, I would definitely recommend some form of isolation rather than bolting it directly to bare aluminum.

Another thing that makes a big difference is just rinsing the area occasionally during winter or after exposure to road salt. Most of the long term issues come from salt and moisture sitting in those joints, so keeping things clean helps prevent that buildup from doing damage.

You’re thinking about this exactly the right way, and taking those extra steps up front will help keep everything in good shape and avoid seized hardware down the road. What kind of conditions do you see most with your trailer, more coastal air, snowy roads, or heavily salted highways?
