Replacement 22-1/4" Long Slipper Spring for a Utility Trailer

Updated 05/04/2026 | Published 04/30/2026

Question:

How can I tell if I need to replace the slipper leaf springs on my 2000lb utility trailer? I don’t see any physical damage while still installed on the trailer. It’s an older trailer having lived a hard life. Giving it some much needed love! Thank you!

Hey Jack. You'll want to take a look at your leaf springs when the trailer's unloaded compared to when it's loaded down. If those springs are flatting out quite a bit it's definitely time to replace them. Especially if your trailer is squatting when loaded down.

How old is your trailer and how long are your leaf springs from the center of the mounting hole to the curved part with the weight off of the suspension?

I attached a diagram below. The measurement needed to determine replacement springs is marked B. The item # EM48AJ slipper spring you were looking at measures 22-11/16".

Mine were rusted out on the bottom so I needed to replace them! But honestly rusted or not trailer is 20 years old so I would have replaced them anyway! Can’t always go off of looks ! Cheaper to replace springs than the whole trailer or whatever is on the trailer! Good luck and be safe!
